Much like the maitre’d in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, I weep for the future.

“Just so you know, I’ve talked you up. My parents don’t believe I could have landed a creature such as I’ve described.”
“Don’t they know that their son is a sexual Sharknado?”
“I’ve been waiting for the right time to tell them.”

Deb, you obviously do not understand that wonderfulness that is Sharknado. Thus, your assignment is to watch it. Then report back. :)

YES!!!! I and my friends watched Sharknado. We are ready for Sharknado 2!!!

Of course, I have a time conflict. Ilona Andrews is going to be in town for a book signing that night. (SQUEEEEE!!!!!) And sometimes she meets with interested folks for coffee beforehand, so I am going to that if possible. So if the signing ends early enough, I’m going north to my “other” home (where I spend my weekends) for the premier of Sharknado 2.

Good to know you are also a fan. Have you also seen Sharktopus then? Definitely one of my faves.

As for GotG: I hope it starts as a matinee because I’m participating in the 48-hour Film Festival that weekend. We have 48 hours to write, film, and edit a 4-7 minute film and submit it. On Friday evening at 7 pm, each team representative picks a genre from a hat. At that time they are given the information about the necessary prop, character name, and a profession. Every film must contain each of these things (this is so no one can create their film beforehand). We participated in a horror-specific event in November and unfortunately got our film in 11 minutes late. To be judged, you must make the deadline exactly. Our subgenre was comedy/parody. Our film was brilliantly ridiculous (at least, the script was!). I was one of the writers. I will be the lead writer this time as well.

So I have to see GotG as a matinee if I’m going to see it that weekend (and I really really really want to).

Skye, it sounds like you are leading an interesting and exciting life! Movie openings pale in comparison to WRITING YOUR OWN!!!

But remember, Lee. The writers can write a script, but it’s the director who crafts the story and who can make major changes. And the actors can suggest changes to lines. The horror short from last autumn was proof of that. Of course, our director didn’t do a good job so there were lots of things left inside his head and missing pieces so the editor didn’t have what he needed to pull it all together. It’s amazing how many people get a chance to craft the story after it leaves the writer’s hands! Given that my BFF, with whom I have a long and often contentious relationship, is the director and the team leader, I have either a better chance or a worse chance at having my vision expressed in the final product. :) But I’ll post a link once the film is done so everyone here can share in my brilliance. LOL.

I read a quick review of the sequel and it said that this was better than the first, raising it from subpar b-movie to really good b-movie.
I’m psyched. :)
