Cherry Saturday: Jan. 18, 2014

Jan182014

Today is A. A. Milne’s Birthday.

“It’s snowing still,” said Eeyore gloomily.
“So it is.”
“And freezing.”
“Is it?”
“Yes,” said Eeyore. “However,” he said, brightening up a little, “we haven’t had an earthquake lately.”

LOLOLOL! Not much snow, but it feels like it’s freezing, and I have been wrestling with my computer and . . . however, we haven’t had an earthquake lately. Nor has the bed fallen on father, nor any other disasters since the beginning of the year. We’re doing pretty good, 2014!

Good ol’ Eeyore.

Have you seen the Sherlock musical? Talented kids.

The behind the scenes youtube is good too. I love seeing their enthusiasm and joy in making the project.

I was raised on a diet of A A Milne (he’s part of mthe reason that I am somewhat suspicious of rice pudding)

We’re pretty warm here but we had our first moderate earthquake of the year a few days ago (I work out on reclaimed land on the harbour and even the mild ones make our desktops shake a little).

You know, I never cared for Eeyore. He’s just too darn depressing. Now Tigger I like. He’s “bouncy trouncy flouncy pouncy, fun fun fun fun fun. The most wonderful thing about tiggers is I’m the only one!” :)

Plenty of snow here (about 4-5 inches today) and a cold front moving in with many days of single-digit temps expected. On the bright side, no earthquakes! (Yet.)

And a new Sherlock tomorrow night! That ought to make the earth move.

Timely. Out here in SoCal, 20th anniversary of the Northridge Earthquake. Sixty-nine people died; thousands, okay millions, terrified. Including me. Unforgettable.
Best earthquake novel is by Gary Indiana, can’t remember the name. Brilliant. Builds to the ending scene, strands all come together.

Is it weird that I’m finding our very un-winter-like weather unnerving? I mean come on, it’s January. Act like it already!

I bought “Now We Are Six” for my husband for his birthday a few years ago, because he had never read it as a child, and was charmed when he finally did.

Frog and Toad are our favorites, though.

“Now we have no more cookies to eat” said Toad sadly “Not even one.”
“Yes,” said Frog, “but we have lots of will power.”
“You may keep it all, Frog” said Toad. “I am going home now to bake a cake.”

I have always loved A.A. Milne’s Pooh, while despising the disney version. However, I had a gigantic disney version stuffed Pooh that lived with me when I was in my twenties. I went a lot of places with that bear in my passenger seat. So I have a tolerance for Disney Pooh (And love the stuffed bears) but a deep abiding love for Milne’s Pooh and wish I could have a gigantic one of him! (It snowed here yesterday. I’m not sure if what I’m seeing now is more snow or ash from our chimney.)

Late to Cherry Saturday, but in NorCal and desperately needing rain. BUT it’s 70-ish and beautiful every day. I just keep looking around at my dying rosebushes and such and thinking I can plant new ones when it starts raining…

I am enjoying the warm while it lasts. I ran around in nothing but a tank top today and it was glorious.

Just hopping over here to Cherry Saturday–what a great idea btw–to let all the Cherries know that we now also have our own Facebook page, for those who don’t mind a little social media added into their schedules! Jenny, I know you don’t really do much in that area at all–however, if you would like to join us in the Orchard, you will be happy to see it is blooming already with about eighty wonderful, fresh, familiar faces that have rediscovered each other and are having a wonderful time re-connecting and catching up! Please join us! The page is called “The Cherries–It’s an Orchard with Snark!” and its in the Groups section on Facebook. all are welcome! I am hoping a few Cherry Bombs will see this and bring the rest along also! :)
