Day Six: Snowstorm

Feb82013

I’m still aching but the good news is, there’s a blizzard headed my way. And me with an antique furnace and a sick dog, not to mention a friend recovering from a virus (“Come down and stay with me in the cottage, we’ll have fun . . . blearg”), so now that I’m semi-back on my feet, I had to go out and haul salt and firewood and corn muffins and quilting magazines (guests do not live by muffins alone), all of which means the office is once again on the back burner.

However I did manage to pry my ass off my recovery bed long enough to do some work. It still looks like hell but my office chair is in there and the computers are set up. I’ll get the printers going today. The furniture is painted. The carpet is mostly down (gotta love carpet squares). The door to the garage is still a cold hollow core nightmare, so I’ll have to do something about that, and I have to start putting things away very soon because I’m tired of falling over boxes of office supplies, but hey, there’s some progress even if it isn’t pretty.

And since I got firewood, I won’t have to burn the desk to keep warm if the power and/or furnace goes out. So overall, it’s a win.

The office at this point (the meds belong to the dog):

That is so cool. Am in envy.

Less space for me would mean less space to collect junk.

And…sending healing vibes all a y’all way!

So glad you’re on the mend and hope Krissie is feeling better today. Either you’ve been working harder than you imagined or office fairies came in and unpacked for you. It’s looking great. I love the black desk against the crisp white. And recovery from that virus takes longer than the initial illness. I know that too well. As for your door, we had one like that. I tried making one of those fabric snake things filled with sand that you lay along the bottom edge and it blocks the cold air. It worked ok, I guess. Then we covered the door with aluminum foil. That didn’t help much, just made us look like we were trying to repel alien mind probes. Finally, we caved and got a new door. Found one priced reasonably at a salvage yard. We were going to paint it anyway, so the finish didn’t matter. One by one, we hope to get rid of every hollow core door in the place. Hope you and Krissie continue to feel better. Try not to rush it, though.

Oh Jersey, how I miss you. First death sickness, and now a blizzard. I’m telling you- Only the strong survive in NJ. We’ve got faith in you though ;)

P.s. For a rough start that office looks pretty awesome.

You might try running a curtain rod across the top of the door & hanging a long heavy curtain or a really pretty quilt from it. That way, you get something colorful & artsy that can be easily pushed aside but will add insulation. Glad you are both feeling better.

I spy the automata’s bride in the background! (I finally watched that movie on netflix, and then the host of other small weird foreign children’s movies they thought I might like, that I did like, including one odd little Dutch one where a cat turns into a woman, and helps a reporter. Miss Minoue – charming.)

Things look like they are definitely coming together, despite the blerg. The office looks fab. I hope the dog’s illness is nothing too serious.

And here’s something to cheer you up (and feed the Good Wolf) as the snow flies. BET ME was listed as the #1 Best Romance Book here: http://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/industry-news/tip-sheet/article/55859-best-romance-novels-for-valentine-s-day.html?utm_source=PW+Tip+Sheet&utm_campaign=e1ccc83dcc-UA-15906914-1&utm_medium=email

The office looks great! Are you sure you should be working this hard while you are recovering? I’m glad you won’t have to burn the desk to stay warm. Hope you get through the blizzard safely and warmly and with everything you need. I was going to say “and with plenty to eat”, but probably neither of you is still very hungry. :)

So glad to know you’re improving and hope Krissie is as well. That tells me there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Well, except that the DH came home sick today. Not what I need, they’re such children when ill…

Hang in there, get better, please, please don’t over-do! Wishing you warm fuzzies and a safe snow…

The snow has let up a little here, but the big push is supposed to come tonight I think. The kids are being especially good despite the fact they are home and I’m writing a million guest blog posts. Hopefully I’ll get to the book and the class work after that.

The puppy just pulled a toy out of her wire crate from the side – despite the fact that the door is open. So much fun having a puppy around – if I ignore the “accidents.” You can’t tell me she’s not doing that on purpose…

My sister had the same problem with a door to the garage. She put a decorative dowel rod above the door and hung a quilt. Blocked the cold and added art. Kind of like a tapestry in a castle.

I’m in PA near Philadelphia and got to work from home today because of the impending storm… still just rain here! Hope you don’t get blizzard worthy snow! Stay warm, keep Krissie and the pups warm too and stay safe!
Glad you’re feeling better, and which little pup is sick? :( My dog had the flu before Christmas and was in the vet hospital on Christmas eve… no fun at all.
Here’s hoping there’s nothing but good times ahead!

Hope all of you continue to get better and that the storm doesn’t affect your power!

I am envious of your multi-outlet extension cord. I do want one that bends to allow for large, power surge protecting, plugs.

Glad you’re feeling better and hope the whole household is well soon!

You have inspired me with all this office talk so I’m creating an office space for myself this weekend. (Not just a desk in my bedroom anymore.) Still won’t look even this good, but I’m excited.

Hope everyone (including the pooch) gets better soon. And maybe tack a blanket/quilt over that door. At least for now.

I am awed by the desk. So many monitors – kind of like mission control. Launching your stories into the world.

Glad to hear you are up and about! Don’t push anything — at least wait until the storm has blown through. You got yer groceries, you got yer heating, just take the work in little Unfuck driblets (20/10s or 20/20s or 20/120s — whatever you need) and relax during your breaktimes. Hope Krissie is up and about soon, too.

(-: This week will make GREAT stories somewhere down the line. That’s the main silver lining to very ugly, dumpy cloud. Take care with that wood fire, and here’s to good times ahead.

All I see in the pics are the pretty Mac and accoutrements.

Still shovelling out from the snow here, but weren’t hit too bad. Really has been an interesting winter for weather, though. Thinking mother nature and old man winter must’ve got into the sherry;)

I think you’re further ahead than you imagine. Great job. Everything is looking good. Just take things slow and baby yourselves for a bit longer. Oh, and what about a nice attractive quilt on that door? That could block some of the chill.

There’s a storm outside, but a warm fire, a bowl of soup, a dog in your lap, a show on the telly and a good pal to moan and groan with. It’s not all bad. ; )

Awesome set up. Can you actually use two monitors from one laptop at the same time? We have eye problems in our house, too, so we have a number of the 30″ monitors, but my husband still has some difficulties. Two monitors might be good.

Even small steps are still progress. It all counts, so congratulations. Really sorry that stupid virus hit you guys. Feel better soon. And I hope you are weathering (heh) the storm okay.

Re the door, one inexpensive – relatively speaking – fix might be to hang some carpet on the back of it. You can get runners not to expensive at Home Depot. That would help block the cold radiating off the metal door. Plus you’d get a decorative door.
