He only had three years, but they were three great years, and he died peacefully in the arms of the people who loved him. He was a good, good dog.

Once again, I come up with a Dr. Seuss quote even if it might not be a consolation right away: “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” It seems to me that Lyle made you smile a lot while he was there.

So very sorry for your loss. Lyle, look up my mini red named Tinker Bell or as her ‘daddy’ called her ‘Killer’. She loved to play and run but she barked at anyone who dared walk down her street.

Jenny, Lani, Alastair, Sweetness & Light (Plus all of the furry members of Lyle’s family),

I am so sorry to hear of Lyle’s death. He truly was a terrific dog and, with his indomitable spirit, a role model for all of us. He didn’t care that he wasn’t supposed to survive as long as he did. He lived his life with spirit and fun. Lyle gave freely of his affection and accepted love and care from all of you just as freely. Rest easy, little guy.

Thanks for sharing him with us through the blog.

Hugs and condolences to all!

I think if there’s a heaven for dogs, it’d be full of rank smells and things to roll in. Little bowls of cheese cubes and meat chunks whenever they’re hungry. Unlimited access to inside and outside, for playing. Tug-of-War ropes and toys to chew. And never-ending head skritches.

My sympathy to all of Lyle’s family. I think animals, unlike many humans, are tuned into the whole cycle of life thing. I think they know when it’s time to go and go without any fear – and I believe absolutely that just like with people, their spirit doesn’t stop for a moment. But I know it hurts when they go and I’m so sorry. I have no doubt that right now, this very moment, Lyle is running, jumping, hitting on Killer, and wondering why in the world you’re all sad. Feel better, dear people – when you’re ready.

How lucky was Lyle to have belonged to such a loving family. I am very sorry for your loss. He will be waiting for you over the Rainbow Bridge where you will once again be together.

Sopping tears here at work. Thankfully, no one came in…I sent a message to my beloved Niki to greet Lyle at the Rainbow Bridge. She’ll show him around and get him acquainted with everyone there. So sorry for your loss.

I am so so sorry for your loss. As soon as I saw the blog title, I started crying. I know he meant so much to all of you and his continued disregard for his health problems was such an inspiration. Thank you for sharing him with us, with your words and stories about him.

Even when you know it’s coming and that you can’t stop it, it rips your heart out when they pass. You just want to hold them forever and keep giving them lovies and promising the impossible – that everything will be okay. Thank goodness they don’t know any of this. They only know the here and now and that you love them.

May you remember the good times together and find peace as the days pass.

We learn our greatest lessons from those who do not know they teach. We should all aspire to be like Lyle. He lived a life rich in quality, he perservered when the odds were against him, and he loved his life and the people in it. He didn’t waste time ( as humans do) wishing for a life he couldnt have. And he gave back every ounce of love he was given with enthusiasm and joy. He inspired so many of us to never give up.
I know the loss of his physical being will be painful, so I hope you can find some small comfort knowing the spirit of Lyle will always be a part of your family, and of the people who loved him even from a distance.

Hugs! It’s hard to lose a pet, and Lyle seemed like a jovial sort of fellow. Glad his short years were good years with a large, caring family.
