Yes, but I’m on the road and can’t get the podcast. Something to look forward to when I get my life, if not under control, at least back on its own computer!

Have a lovely time watching the movie, and I hope that it retains its fun with critical watching.

Is it bad that my first response (keep in mind, I just work up) is “belly snuggle!” with the full knowledge my first would be scratched off? My poor cat deals well with me planting my face in his belly. Just too fluffy.

My Friday is just about at an end; beautiful fireworks tonight with my sister-in-law and oldest. It was a great day, and I didn’t even realize it was Friday the 13th until just now! Heck, if all my F/13s can be like this, bring on some more!

Hope all will be in order on my end for tomorrow. It sounds like a very fun movie!

Friday and the last day before a little vacation. Life is good.

Jenny, I keep meaning to ask your opinion about something. After reading the interview here, I read my first Jennifer Weiner book. (Good in Bed.) I’ve seen several recent interviews with her that all brand her as the Queen of Chick-Lit. Granted, I’ve only read one of her books, but I didn’t look at GiB as chick-lit at all.

Is this a case of the media not knowing how to characterize her work? We know they love to slot people. If that’s not the case, is she really a chick-lit author? I’m willing to accept that I might too narrowly define the genre.

You know, it all depends on how you define it. I think of Chick Lit as snappy stories about urban women looking for love, not necessarily romance novels. Which means I don’t write much Chick Lit (Trust Me On This is probably Chick Lit) and Jen doesn’t write it at all. But it’s a place where people can slot women who write women’s fiction that has a happy ending, so it’s an easy, sloppy call. I did a panel for a big writing conference in Florida once, very prestigious, that was called Chick Lit something. I spoke first and the first thing I said was, “I don’t write Chick Lit so I don’t know what I’m doing on this panel..” Then the next writer spoke and the first thing she said was, “I don’t write Chick Lit so I don’t know what I’m doing on this panel.” By the end of the hour, all four panelists had said it. We all wrote fiction with a female protagonist that ended optimistically, that was the only thing we had in common. Sloppy, sloppy thinking which people do because it’s women’s fiction and therefore not serious.
Yes, I find it annoying. I don’t know what Jen thinks, I’ve never asked her.

This is why I always say I don’t read chic lit. I read romantic mysteries and paranormal romance and humor and science fiction and…

Dang it. I just READ. Why can’t I just say fiction and let it go? I’m more than happy to talk about what I like in a story but I don’t really need subcategories with subcategories. Labels scare people away.

My local bookstore keeps filing all my favorites wrong anyway. The books I’m looking for are never where I expect them to be.

I’ll be there tonight.

I also bury my face in the fluffy underbelly of my kitties, Bethany. So, no, not wrong.

Third, I see the tweets from @CruiseNews about the covers, but I don’t do facebook and the tweets get cut off since the update to FB is more than 140 characters. Usually, there’s a link I can follow, but the one 2 tweets ago went nowhere. So, what’s up now?

The covers were shown to the sales force. The sales force thought the dog in the chair looked too much like the MTT cover, and didn’t like the frog on the Bet Me cover. So it’s back to the drawing board . . .

Hmm, I thought the frog was great. Sure, real frogs can be a bit icky, but the metaphor of kissing your prince… well, romance people get it. I’m certain all the plot points have been considered, snow globe, a change up from a dog and do a cat (Elvis), somehow a plate of Chicken Marsala seems iffy, a red lacy bra?, Krispy Kreme donut, redo the shoes?…

Also, which reprint had the dog on the chair?

Yay, PopD!! Friday night is my night to hang with the Poppers and soak up some relaxation! I’ll miss Lucy tonight. Perhaps you could have invited Bob to be a guest Tweeter. I mean, he was in the military and Cary Grant’s character was in the military. ;) I’m sure his input would be quite….interesting.

I personally would rather hear Bob’s input on “I was a Male War Bride.” Though I’m not sure how Bob would take the movie if he hasn’t seen it before.

I love Cary Grant.

I do, too. I saw that movie many years ago and thought it was wonderful. Ann Sheridan and Cary Grant had great timing. I’d put that up as another romcom that everyone should see if they haven’t yet.

I Was a Male War Bride. You have to see Cary Grant being driven in a motorcycle sidecar by Ann Sheridan. And the final scenes are priceless.

If you have a Netflix membership it’s available for Instant Play on your computer. It makes it a little hard to tweet and watch, unless you have multiple laptops. Some folks with a Xbox or a Wii can watch Netflix movies on their TV through their gaming system.

Hope that helps!

Hmph. I coulda been a contendah and listened to Father Goose. Instead, fool that I am, I went out and did a friggin’ 5k in friggin’ 95 degrees (at 7:30 pm) and listened to the PopD podcast of The Apartment. Jeez. Which you deliberately Cut Short, knowing that this would result in my doing the last section of the 5k alone and without a podcast leader. Now that’s Just Cruel.

Jenny-I finally was able to check out your book “Wild Ride” from the library-I had my name on the list FOREVER. I was surprised to discover that the library has labeled it “horror”. I suppose they have to label it something but are you surprised at this?

Well, there are demons. If they don’t have a paranormal category, that’s where anything like that is going to go.
I don’t think it’s particularly frightening, though.
