Tonight on PopD: Born Yesterday
Jul162010
Tonight on Popcorn Dialogues we’re doing Born Yesterday, which I do not recall having seen before but for which I have high hopes.
In the meantime, here’s that list of books you were asking for (click on the image to get a full screen chart). They’re all in order, but most of the category novels don’t have dates on them because I can’t find them yet. They used to be on the site but they disappeared in the remodel.

Let me know if I’ve left anything out. I did that fairly late last night.
Category novels from Harlequin are in red, from Bantam in yellow. Solo single titles are in blue, collaborative single titles in green. Dates are under the titles. There weren’t that many crossover characters, but I think I got them all.
See? Ask and ye shall get a nice Curio chart.
And tonight, Born Yesterday.

Born Yesterday is one of my favorites, but do remember that it is heavy war time propaganda. Yet the character of Billie is wonderful. Believable? Not so much.

I thought of something else you might add. The two short stories you wrote for Agnes and Wild Ride, if those are still floating around somewhere on the internet, links to them on the book pages they’re tied to might be helpful. Or maybe a separate page for short stories in general (in case you write more)?

Yes. The very helpful chart above mentions several short stories that I didn’t know existed. It would be great to have links to them.

That was my question! where are all the prequel and sequel short stories? Links would be fabulous!

Ooh! Gabe McKenna is one of my favorites – I’m so glad that he’ll be in MTT, when I eventually get to read it. At the end of August. I can wait, I just don’t want to!
I know nothing about “Born Yesterday” – so I will be very interested to listen to the comments and discussion! So fun to drop by while you and Lani are talking about movies – especially since I can do it at my convenience without inconveniencing you.

Necessary info (I feel) on the meaning of color coding — any way you can fit it on the chart? Of course, I can annotate by hand, but my time is best spent out on the book-buying sites searching for my don’t-haves. Oh, your time is best spent by writing, not footnoting? Let me find my pen.

I was one of the fortunate (and very, very grateful) few to get one of the copies in the contest. Gabe’s part was very tiny, but still, I literally sat up and shouted, “It’s Gabe!! *MY* Gabe!!”
I would not be mentioning this, but Jenny put in right out there.

Small part. SMALL PART. Especially since MTT takes place before Fast Women. He’s still will Chloe in MTT.

Since MTT takes place before Fast Women, I’m now wondering if for the sake of the graph if MTT should be above Fast Women. The catch I think is that if his part is so small in MTT, then people probably won’t get giddy unless they had already read Fast Women. Hmmm…

Gabe’s part was very tiny
Look, I’ll say this again. It’s not the size of his part, it’s what he does with it. And I refuse to believe that Gabe would be less than wonderful. Yet another reason to buy the book
On July 17, 2010 at 4:23 am Jenny said...
Not that part. Sheesh. Like I’d diss one of my heroes like that.

Agnes and the Boyfriend? Wild Night?
Wha??? Where can these be found?
On July 16, 2010 at 4:25 pm Jenny said...
“Wild Night” is on the website. Go to the Wild Night page and go down to the notes section and there’s a link to a downloadable PDF.
“Agnes and the Boyfriend” isn’t up anywhere. SMP said it was too violent. It’s on my list of things to look at once I get throught the 12,000 pressing things I have to do first.

Those wimps! Put it up. I DARE you.

Short stories? Short stories!? Wait, I missed those. Where can I find them? Can we get links? Please? Could you put them on your website? Pretty please with a cherry on top?
On July 16, 2010 at 4:26 pm Jenny said...
Not right now. I’m up to my ass in alligators, so editing a bunch of old short stories is very far down on my list.
Thank you for asking, though.

Jenny, I have the microsoft word version of “Meeting Harold’s Father” that you put on the website in 2007 saved on my computer. Do you want me to email it to you? Smooches, Heidi
On July 16, 2010 at 6:39 pm Jenny said...
Nope, I’ve got it. I think. It needs revised badly. No, that’s not right. It needs revised because it’s bad, not a bad revision.
It’s a little tense here right now. I think there’s going to be nine cities on the September tour. Which means I have to leave the house.
Thank god I have PopD tonight, I’m way too tense.
But thank you, Heidi!

It’s on the list. We’ll get a final version with dates by next week, but it’ll be in September, after Labor Day.
On July 17, 2010 at 10:45 pm Kelly S said...
Hey Heidi, would you be willing to email it to other Argh people, me for instance?

Wow. 21 titles not including the prequels or short stories. Not too shabby for a midlife career crisis.
Way to go Crusie!

Thank you. I try to tell myself that.

What Carol said. And is Sizzle there? It’s been a very long day, and it’s possible my brain is playing tricks on me.

Sizzle isn’t there. Bleah.

Wait, “Crazy For You” is the one with the teacher and her Nordic stalker/ex-boyfriend, right? Only you could do a rom-com with a stalker and make it work. LOL!

Awesome! Thank you!!
See you at popd tonight. Bringing my folks. We’ll see if this works.

Love this chart. And there is a prequel to Agnes and the Hitman? How could I not have known this? Oh, happy day!
On July 16, 2010 at 3:13 pm Jacie said...
I know, right? Of all of the Crusie Men, Shane is my current crush. He’s helping me get over Gabe.
Oh, who am I kidding. I’ll never be over Gabe.
Agnes is DEFINITELY my current girl-crush though.

WAIT! I remember Jenny talking about an Agnes short story, and there were many comments here when she asked for suggestions, some of which I believe worried Jenny somewhat; but I do not recall said story actually getting published! WHERE????

SMP turned it down because it was too violent. Eventually it’ll see the light of day somewhere.

Lucy (from getting Rid of Bradley) makse a brief (and nameless )appearance in Faking It. She buys an painted end table that “looks just like Pete” and Gwen wonders if Pete is her husband or her dog. And of course Pete is her dog (that Zack her husband found).

This seems like a sign that I need to go back and read some books all over again…
p.s. Gabe makes the new book an even bigger perk.

The play is better than the book. They added all that patriotic crap and it kind of makes you cringe. Just a wee bit heavy handed. Judy Holliday, OTOH, is divine.

There are prequel and sequel short stories for Crazy for You???? Where, Where, Where do I find them? I want them, I can’t have a complete Crusie collection without them. I’ve been so proud to say I had the complete collection and now I’ve found out that I’m full of hooey. It’s a sad sad day. I’ll have to pout for a while now.

Once upon a time, many years ago, Jenny shared “The Day My Sister Shot the Mailman and Got Away With It, of Course.” I think it was a newsletter attachment. If I recall correctly (which is not at all a sure bet) it was an exercise from writing class: a short story 26 sentences long, each sentence beginning with a different letter of the alphabet. In order. Hence Zoe and Quinn.
I could have sworn I’d saved the file, since I save everything Jenny ever wrote, but
somehow, this one melted.
I did save and still have, “Meeting Harold’s Father.”
On July 20, 2010 at 4:07 pm Jenny said...
Wow, you’re good.
“Meeting Harold’s Father” has to be rewritten. “The Day My Sister” is probably fine; it began with the ABC exercise (write a story with 26 sentences, the first beginning with A, the second with B, etc.) and then I rewrote it into a real short story, and then I went forward twenty years and wrote Crazy for You.
