Me neither. At least, not on arghink.com. When I checked jennycrusie.com after 40+ minutes of hitting refresh, I finally saw the message about the form no longer accepting submissions. Argh.

Same here. Anyone know if the form is on jennycruise.com or arghink.com? I asked before but my comment was lost with the server change. I’ll look below to see if there is an answer there.
BTW, congrats to the winners! (trying not to be jealous)

OK, so I went to arghink.com at 12:00:02 PM (I was a little late, sorry) and there was no form. Until just now (12:04 PM) and it says that the contest is over. Maybe it’s my computer? I’m glad to hear that fourteen lovely people won though and especially that the site didn’t crash. I’ll try again tomorrow. *sniff*

It was even crazier for me. I refreshed like a crazy person (in two different browsers, no less!) from 11:55 on… and only NOW am I even able to see the ‘no longer accepting submissions’ note at all.
On February 25, 2010 at 9:33 am Jenny said...
You know, that may have been because of the server switch. I couldn’t see this post for hours and Mollie said it was because of my cache, that the computer kept taking me back to the old site.
On February 24, 2010 at 12:06 pm Korie said...
Well, that was frustrating. The form wouldn’t accept my entry because I didn’t change “where I heard about the give away” and just left it as is, since it was correct, so it sent me an error saying not all the fields were entered. Otherwise, it would have accepted it.

There’s a total of 35.
We gave out 10 on Monday, fourteen Wednesday. Tuesday we were switching servers. I forget why we gave out those numbers, but Mollie’s calling the shots. So now we have 11 left.

Um, I’ll go ahead and say it: this contest is exceptionally annoying. Jennifer Crusie is one of my very most favorite authors. I buy all of her books. I read this blog. (I don’t comment much, but I read it religiously.) But this “come back each day at precisely the right time and hope that in four nanoseconds you will have a chance to quickly submit an entry” contest is just so…so…un-Jenny-like.
Is it to purposely drive traffic to the site each day, to up your numbers so you can gather more advertising, or something? I believe that’s why sites typically do this sort of “come back every day” contest. Or maybe there’s some other reasoning behind it?
All I know is that Jennifer Crusie writes books for adults, and I wish this contest could be more adult, frankly. Could we all just put our names in, and you could draw some out of a hat, or use a random number generator, or something? The only reason I’m leaving this comment is because lately you’ve had that “what do titles imply” poll running. I voted for the one that basically says “the title’s got to be close to what the book’s about but it doesn’t have too much impact.” Well, this contest is having an impact on my perception of the “Jennifer Crusie” brand. Just FYI.
On February 24, 2010 at 4:06 pm Meredith B. said...
What advertising? This site is blessedly free of advertising, which means that it’s probably all on Jenny’s dime. And as a project manager for a web development company, I would be astonished if it came inexpensively.
On February 24, 2010 at 4:07 pm Meredith B. said...
That said, I can understand your frustration.
On February 24, 2010 at 4:34 pm julie said...
I was just trying to understand why the choice of “come back every day” contest — that’s something that other websites do to drive up traffic, which can increase their advertising rates. I do understand that there’s no advertising here. And I’m actually not trying to be mean to Jenny or her webmistress. I just think the style of this contest is designed for maximum participant frustration, and I don’t think that helps the Jennifer Crusie brand.
On February 24, 2010 at 4:14 pm Jennifer said...
I’m pretty sure Jenny said in one of the earlier posts that this wasn’t her idea or project, but was being run by the publisher, just using her web site.
On February 24, 2010 at 5:48 pm Jenny said...
I’m sorry. It’s not to drive up traffic, traffic is immaterial here since we don’t advertise. Mollie looked at other ways of doing things but if we hold a drawing then people who know nothing about the books will enter because some people enter everything and we wanted people who were long time fans to win. Admittedly, we didn’t realize it would be this kind of a nightmare for everybody, and now I’m thinking we should just have taken the first 35 on Monday. But truly, it wasn’t to drive traffic here. We don’t put advertising on the site so it stays nice and quiet visually–well, except for the monkey–and because we don’t want it on here.
I’m really sorry for the annoyance.
On February 24, 2010 at 6:00 pm julie said...
Thank you for that acknowledgement. And since the contest is clearly something I’m not going to participate in, I just wanted to let you know that I WILL BUY THE BOOK THE MINUTE IT COMES OUT. I am still a rabid fan.

Darn it…this website hates me (see reply way up the page) but congratulations to all the winners.
I have to keep reminding myself that not winning doesn’t mean not being able to ever read the book.
I had way too much coffee this morning and then my class got out late, so I sat down in the hallway hitting refresh from 10:55am Central time until 11:38, not seeing any change in the site, doing the jeez-I-have-to-pee dance. I think it’s a new slogan to pass along to SMP – “Jennifer Cruise – If her fans will risk wetting their pants to read something she claims ‘blows dead bears,’ imagine what they’ll do for something she’s happy with.” What? You don’t think it’ll sell any books?
On February 24, 2010 at 9:00 pm Kelly S said...
I know it would get me a little extra interested in a book/author I had never heard of…
BTW, I had a very similar experience w/o the need to pee dance. I hope you made okay.

OK, gush alert – I’ve been a Crusie fan for years. My first Crusie book was _Manhunting_ and it’s still one of my favorites. It has friends, family, amazing dialogue – and was different from any romance that I had read up to that time. You’ve been on my “hunt down all published books” and “must buy new books immediately upon release” lists ever since. I even have _Sizzle_. (I guess I shouldn’t taunt when I’ve just won). But OMG! OMG! OMG!
Thank you!

Thanks to everyone for the congrats. I’m still a bit stunned that I’m actually one of the winners, because like some people have already stated, I NEVER win anything! Jen Crusie is one of my favorite authors and I was fortunate to attend one of her Q&A/book signing events in Chicago when Bet Me was released. She’s a fun, witty person and I’ve been waiting, waiting, waiting for her new work.
To describe my experience, it was an adrenaline rush refreshing the Web page and it was all over in 1 minute. Really. One minute. It’s like getting to your computer for a pre-sale of concert tickets, and it all happens super-fast.
Good luck to everyone else the rest of the week. I’ll do my part to “help” by staying away from the Web site around 12:00 noon tomorrow and Friday.

Just a curious question from one of those underprivileged Europeans to those of you who know more about computers than I do: aside from the fact that it contributes to the server breakdown, wouldn’t keeping a dozen tabs open with Argh Ink and constantly refreshing them slow down your computer considerably? I’d suppose this might rather spoil the chances of getting to the form in time than improving them. Or am I totally wrong here?
On February 24, 2010 at 4:07 pm Jennifer said...
I’m no computer expert, but I had eight windows going on Monday, and it didn’t slow down my computer at all. I think I could have had a lot more windows going at the same time, but I couldn’t have refreshed them fast enough. I had newspaper and shopping windows open then, too, although of course I was ignoring them at the time!

Okay – when do you start promoting Wild Ride? My pre-ordered copy from amazon is due to arrive in three weeks and my anticipation is kept fresh by my daily commute past HersheyPark and the view of its antique wooden roller coaster (the Comet) and antique carousel. Additionally, I drive along the side of the park with a stream. Based on the various versions of Chapter 1 you and Bob have posted these are major elements of the park in Wild Ride.

Jenny, not to complain, but could you change the color of your posts? On the old server they used to be darker and stood out from the rest of the posters. If not, that’s ok. I use them as sorta bookmarks to find where the last post I read in the 76 or more posts. Comes in handy somedays when time is in short supply.
I hope I didn’t come off sounding demanding, just a suggestion.

I love your icon because it looks a little witchy and it reminds me of Wild Ride. Isn’t your protagonist a witch or magical or something? Maybe you could change them each time a new book comes out.
