Give Away: Day One Winners

Feb222010

Today, patience and extreme persistence has paid off for the following TEN fans:

Terri O. in Virginia Beach, VA
Shiloh W. in Colorado Springs, CO
Jennifer P. in Evanston, IL
Kathy S. in Iompoc, CA
Terri G. in Cincinnati, OH
Michelle M. in Shamrock, TX
Rebecca McD. in Zachary, LA
Julie S. in DeKalb, IL
Gina F. in Henrico, VA
and Martha Z. in Waynesboro, VA

Yep, that’s right, we’re giving copies to all ten entrants that signed up before the form expired (FYI, it was set to only take ten entries). After the whole site-crashing snafu, we couldn’t stand the thought of throwing out the last three alternate entries.

25 more books will be given away this week – more info will come from Jenny later on today or tonight (or as soon as we figure out the best way to give ‘em away).

I can’t believe it! I actually won! I never win stuff, so I was just entering so the people at SMP would know how much Jenny is loved!

On February 22, 2010 at 2:23 pm Terrio said...

OMGOMGOMG!! I got one. NO WAY! And I’m on a PC, in case we really are keeping track of that. LOL! Loved the commerical idea though.

Yay!!!! If I was coordinated enough to do cartwheels I totally would! :D

Did the server really crash?? Wow.

I’d just like to point out to SMP that us foreigners would happily read a PDF. Or anyway, I would. No postage costs!

I think my neighbors could hear the screaming! I haven’t been this excited in *years*!!!!

Congrats to the winners!

Congrats to the winners! No matter how I tried (and believe me, I TRIED), I had trouble just pulling up the blog, and never did see the registration post. SMP could use this as part of the sales pitch to bookstores. See, the fans didn’t CARE that it was a truck draft and crashed your blog trying for it!

Congratulations to those who won today! Patience pays. :) That and good timing.

On February 22, 2010 at 2:41 pm Beki said...

It must have been QUITE a crash, too, since I was here lurking around for thirty minutes beforehand and then when time came, I just tried to refresh the page and NOTHING! For a full twenty minutes, nothing. Congratulations to today’s winners!!!

Same here, Beki.

Ditto. But congrats to the winners, lucky dogs!

Me, too! Waited ahead of time like an insane shopper on Black Friday and then opened 3 windows and refreshed until all that my computer would bring up was a site malfunction message. :p I finally had to attend to my children at 35 after-lol!

On February 22, 2010 at 2:45 pm JulieB said...

Squeee! I’ve been posting online as JulieB for years, but that’s me up there. Congrats to all, and best wishes to everyone else. Thanks Jenny and Mollie!

Squee!!! Thanks! Yay! *dies from excitement*

Also, I’m totally paranoid I did something stupid like type my house number in wrong. Fast fingers = clumsy fingers.

On February 22, 2010 at 2:48 pm JulieB said...

AND I got in through the grace of the hostess. Thank you again. :)

On February 22, 2010 at 2:49 pm Jennifer said...

Okay, I should confess here, I tried *really* hard. It wasn’t completely luck. I had one computer with eight windows to the blog open, hitting refresh continuously so that they were all loading simultaneously, plus my ten-year-old daughter on my netbook doing the same thing with a few pages open. I did this for forty minutes, at which point I pretty much gave up. I fixed lunch, and while eating and chatting with my daughter, I just kept refreshing the browser on the netbook. I *thought* I was just checking for updates at that point. I about had a heart attack when the form popped up. :-) I still can’t believe I got a copy. I really, really wanted this.

On February 22, 2010 at 3:44 pm JulieB said...

Wow! I feel like a slacker. :) Mine was just dumb luck. I was clicking to see if any Crusie sites were open, and I totally stumbled upon it.

On February 22, 2010 at 3:54 pm Kelly said...

I only had two windows open but was like Jennifer. After about 45 min. I gave up to heat up my lunch and by then missed it. So, sad for me, but am happy for the winners! (Especially since there are 25 more possibilities). JulieB – what a lucky slacker! ;)

How interesting that the site crashed today, being that I was unable to enter because my laptop froze! I’ll be ready at my desktop tomorrow. Congratulations to today’s winners!

Congratulations to the winners! You are some of the most envied women I know today ;)

On February 22, 2010 at 3:07 pm Tawna Fenske said...

Huge congrats to the winners!

I neurotically hit “refresh” for the better part of an hour and I did actually get to fill out he form. Alas, the system informed me that it had already gotten enough entries when I tried to submit, so I must have just missed it.

Can’t wait to try again tomorrow. Thanks for this opportunity!

On February 22, 2010 at 3:31 pm Katie Redhead said...

Tawna- I had the same thing happen…I think because I stopped to put in a comment. Never again will I comment – name, address, submit only!
I’ll save my comments for here! =)

Thank god I’m my own boss or I’d be seriously fired for my lack of focus on anything but trying to win this today.

Better luck for all of us who blew up the internet for our chance tomorrow…especially those of us who came thisclose!

Congrats to the winners, and thank you Jenny/(SMP?) for letting us prove how into this book we are. Ever since I read the revised first chapter, I’ve been drooling for more – “blows dead bears” truck draft or not, I know any Crusie is worth a server meltdown.

Katie Redhead — same here! I stopped to put in a @#$% comment. What the hell were we thinking?

My theory – we can never resist trying for extra credit. I mean, imagine if Jenny saw our brilliant, witty form comment – Surely she’d realize she needs us to review this book to provide SMP with eloquent, carefully crafted commentary point out that clearly Crusie fans are up for anything Jenny.

I feel inspired by the fact that the title is May Be This Time … Maybe this time, we’ll be able to avoid the seductive lure of the comment box!

On February 22, 2010 at 8:48 pm Katie Redhead said...

Ack. Typo – I meant “eloquent, carefully crafted commentary TO point out that clearly Crusie fans are up for anything Jenny.”

there goes the extra credit. =)

Um, I put in a comment… *ducks and runs*

On February 22, 2010 at 3:13 pm McB said...

Jennifer – I had three windows open, and my co-worker, and my iPhone! Although I’ve always had trouble with Argh on the iPhone for some reason.

On February 22, 2010 at 3:30 pm Jennifer said...

Okay, yeah, it was 99% luck that I got a copy, 1% insane refreshing determination. Good luck tomorrow!

On February 22, 2010 at 3:19 pm CrankyOtter said...

Wow, they must have had mad refresh skilz. It’s 3 hours later and only now will the page even load for me.

I’m not sure why someone who made the top 10 bestseller list with a re-issue would worry about getting readers for her next book. But I will look forward to tomorrows site-crashing challenge in hopes of being one of those readers.

On February 22, 2010 at 3:31 pm Terrio said...

Jennifer – You deserved to win after all that effort. I had one window open and kept refreshing to see when the site might come back up. Guess I just timed it right. I’m rarely if ever this lucky. I’m buying a lottery ticket on the way home, though I feel like I already won a jackpot. :)

Congratulations to the winners! I forgot about the contest (smacks forehead really hard). Of course, it sounds as if I saved myself a LOT of anxiety and computer bashing!

I stuck around for 42 minutes hoping to get a little blip in the stream and get on the site. No such luck. I hope hope hope I can be in the next round of 25.

It was blind luck that the form popped up. I didn’t add any comments because I was afraid that would take too much time. Thank you lots. I know I’m not a beta reader, but could I be considered a delta or a gamma reader? I’m going to practice saying that in my most soignee voice. ps– I was hurrying to get my form filled out and didn’t use upper case. I live in Lompoc as opposed to Iompoc.

On February 22, 2010 at 4:29 pm Eve said...

congrats to all the lucky winners! may the new written pages warm you ;)

btw, for anyone who wants to feel immensely better about being a Crusie fan, check out ebay – yooooo, someone is trying to sell Getting Rid of Bradley for 179 buckaroos. There is more craziness there if you do a general search.

Wow.

I hope I win tomorrow. It’d make my birthday perfect.

Conratulations to the winners! Jenny, I’ve seen many blogs do giveaways by having people leave comments on the related post, and then at a designated time, the blog administrator generates which numbered comments win using random numbers generated at http://www.random.org/ . :)

Congratulations to the winners! I was about to enter the site at 11:50 when my boss’ boss’ boss came by and wanted to discuss something with the team. Sigh–work gets in the way of life yet again!

I have recently “stumbled” across this author and have to just say I adore her so far. I really enjoyed agnes and the hitman, as well as the dempsey family sagas. I would love to learn how to win more and to keep updated with what else is new. I am on my way to borders to purchase a few more! Thanks for the stories.

Congrats to all the winners! I couldn’t get the site to come up and figured it was crashed by Cherries trying to win and gave up pretty easily since I was in the middle of The Great Central Vac Bag Hunt anyway.

What thrills me to no end is that someone from LOMPOC won! Is there a Cherry here in my new town? How luvely luvely!

I refreshed on Safari for twenty minutes, switched over to Firefox, switched back to Safari, then read Jenny’s twit about the site being down, and they’d figure it out later, SO I QUIT TRYING!!!! My contest karma sucks. ‘Cause I’m a quitter.

Then I read the comments about people trying to open ten slots at once, and called my son and asked, “If a thousand people simultaneously tried to open ten connections each to the same server, is that the same as ten thousand people trying to gain access?” He gave me the my-mother’s-a-lunatic sigh, and said, “Yes, but why do you want to know?”

So I explained the contest, and the tragedy of my quitting too soon. And he said, “I’m sorry, Poochie, but can’t you just wait and buy the book when it comes out?”

I may have snarled at him. Congrats to the persevering winners!

Sigh! Wish I could lie about where I live and get away with it but that’s tricky when you’re on the other side of the planet.
I love this story and have enjoyed reading your posts and watching it develop. Can’t wait to read it. But not even lying and jumping up and down shouting ‘pick me’ is going to make me close enough. Oh well, I’ll wait til it comes out. Thanks for writing it.
