Fairy Tale Lies: Krissie’s Collage Pages

Feb152010

Krissie’s character in our next collaboration is Cinderella, aka Cinda, who married the Prince who turned out to be a drag, but his Grand Vizier is a different story. Well, Fairy Tale Lies is a different story. Here are the pages Krissie has done so far:

Oh, I’m now absolutely excited. This looks beautiful and such a teaser/preview of forthcoming attractions.
Also given me a new idea or two on doing my collages differently. Thanks.

When my daughter Lucinda was born – my mother-in-law said that we couldn’t call her Cindy becasue my sister-in-law is named Cindy. My daughter was named after her deceased great-grandmother who was called Cindy. We started calling her Cinda on the day she was born. She came home crying from school one day because one of the boys at school called her “Cinderella dressed in pink” – if only I’d have had that kind of insult thrown my way in elementary school.
Cinda is a great name and Krissie will maker her wonderful.

Oh nice! You’d laugh if you could see my board for California Schemin” – which is essentially done. So what do I have? A big blank peice of paper with two men tacked in the upper corner Beckam, and the actor that played the Mummy in – The Mummy. Other than that – nada! Oh except for a photo of my elder daughter and our foreign exchange student that I tacked up in the other corner because I didn’t have any other place to put it.

I think the next time my freinds to scapbooking I’ll have to come and work on my collages!! i need the visuals to keep my descriptions straight and the mood right. But somehow I always run out of time. Or I get distracted and forget.
Very much looking forward to the new collaboration!

LOVE IT. The wallpaper in the first collage is great – that brown, castle-like setting looking so unchanging. “And there died a handsome prince”? Can’t wait to read this. Speaking of fairy tales, R. and I borrowed our 8 yr. old nephew and went to a land far, far away and climbed up and down many mountains (out of order elevator at parking garage) to see Avatar in 3D on an IMAX screen. It was dazzling and beautiful and astonishing -like no 3D I’d ever seen before. (I kept brushing ferns out of my face.) But we were also lucky enough to see “Alice” previews in the same format. OMG! I have to say it again. OMG! There will absolutely be another visit to that kingdom in the future. Actually two, because there was a preview of “How To Train Your Dragon” in the new 3D technology. It looks wonderful, too, but then Dreamworks – no surprise there. It’s about a boy who sets out to slay a dragon and it doesn’t work out quite as he planned. Best line in preview – “Useless Reptile!” Avatar is PG-13, so on the way there R. practiced whispering “earmuffs!” so nephew would cover his ears when bad words were said, but it didn’t work at all. We used bribery on the way home instead, so he wouldn’t get us into trouble with his mom. R. and I are now officially “cool”. Another benefit – I can look at the above collages and see them in my mind in 3D, all layered and fascinating.

For a different take try:

Sparkhouse. A modern take on Wuthering Heights with Armitage as a sweet and gentle man. This is only available on DVD in PAL (UK) format, but you can download it via Bittorrent.

Vicar of Dibley Christmas Specials. Armitage is the sweet new man in the village who falls for, and marries, Geraldine. Available in the US on Netflix streaming, DVD and on YouTube.

As a fairy tale addict, I love this!! I’m so looking forward to the book that comes from these. :)

I’m now considering using some Russian lacquer box art for my collage. It’s fairy-tale oriented (which is important) and the colors/vibrancy are inspiring.

On a random note, is the guy she chose for the Vilkas page from the BBC’s Robin Hood series? Or am I imagining things?

Yep, Richard Armitage plays the tortured Guy of Gisborne in the BBC’s Robin Hood.

I’ve always seen the darkness in fairy tales, probably from reading them before they were overly sanitized, or maybe like that one reader’s niece and her logical mind about Rapunzel I saw that there was no way it could all be about fuzzy bunnies and walks through the (domesticated) park. And I love contemporary versions and retakes on them, because the darkness is explored and even loved.

WONDERFUL collages! Effective teasers! I can hardly wait ….

The prince is a drag, huh? Sounds positively Shakespearean, if he’s IN drag, of course.

Personally, I think the “Once Upon a Time” page ought to be the book cover! It’s really lovely, and I look forward to the book too! Loved Dogs and Goddesses!

You have to admit, the prince IN drag would be enough to inspire a new take on an old fairy tale!

If this was a picture book I would buy it. But the last shot is so compelling. I want to know the story behind it.

I love this! I did my first collage yesterday for the novel I’m writing now. It was FUN. I just need to add pix of Queen Anne’s Lace and it is finished.

So, if I am reading this right, the Grand Vizier isn’t actually, actively evil? Hmmmm, that’s a nice twist (-:.

BTW, the crown prince of Japan seems to be a pretty nice guy, but it also seems like he strong-armed the princess into marrying him (well, maybe just guilted her into marrying him? I’m sure he didn’t have Security twisting her arm or anything). But, this sort of thing happens in this day and age, and IF the Grand Vizier is actually a “good guy” . . . well, anyway, I see a lot of possibilities here. It should be a lot fun (-:. Hard to get any politician into the “good guy” role, though, eh?

I’d buy the picture book too. And thanks for showing us the scrapbook, I get so much more out of visuals. In fact, what I see from these is that my old collage is in need of a complete do-over.

and speaking of gorgeous guys who could figure in a fairy tale…did anyone watch Stephane Lambiel in the men’s Olympic skating on Tuesday night? He was dressed in a Romeo-looking costume. I went to his website and spent a half hour looking at his photo gallery. Apparently he does some modeling…So handsome and such a wonderful skater…

This may not be Krissie’s collage, but it is fairy tale lies. Not only that, but it’s by your secret twin. You could have written this. Really.
