There Is No Joy in Mudville . . .
Feb32010
Mona loves the outdoors, much more than the other dogs who give up after fifteen minutes and come inside, so lately I’ve been letting her play out there as long as she likes. Today, she came in looking like this:

So we stood under the shower while she bitched and I tried to get huge clumps of mud off her, and now she’s in my bed under the electric blanket:

It’s a dog’s life.

OMG can I PLEASE be reincarnated as your dog? I want to romp in the yard til I’m a muddy wreck and then have someone there to clean me up and tuck me into a warm bed.

I thought you were going to say you wanted to be able to shower with Jenny. LOL! I mean, you can love your favorite authors, but you shouldn’t loooooove you’re favorite authors. LOL!
That dog is so adorable.

I also have a mud lover. She is a blonde mutt but after playing in the mud she appears to have black socks and a black belly. If you saw her in the shower you would think her legs were being cut off rather than rinsed. At least mine has straight short fur! Mona is adorable. From the amount of mud on her I suppose the kneecap issue doesn’t slow her down any.

When my dog comes inside with a muddy face, it usually means he’s been entertaining himself in the snow-free zone under the trampoline by eating frozen poopsicles.
He’s very refined, my dog.

I was trying not to think about that. “It’s mud,” I kept saying to myself.
Thank you, Rox.

See now Lani needs to come in and say, “It’s a bird.”

Ah, I bet that dog was joyful out in the mud. It was the cleaning after and the humans that were lacking joyous feelings.

DW just gave our loooong haired Aussie a bath for the same reason.
With the added rolling in a horse corral.
They do have fun in the mud.

I can recall doing the same for my son when he was little. The good news is that I’m pretty sure it was just mud, without the “additives”. He didn’t get a warm electric blanket afterwards though.

I have had an exhausting day, and reading about Mona’s happy fling in the mud and seeing those pics really cheered me up and made me smile.

Mona looks a lot bigger and fuzzier than I remember her. Ah, well, they don’t stay puppies forever – even if they act that way!

awww! poor chilly puppy!
When my little poodle dove headlong into a love/hate with last week’s snow (example: Hey I wanna sniff this white powdery stuff. OOOH NEATO IT’S COLD I’LL JUMP IN UP TO MY NECK! Oh crap it’s wet get it off get it off me NOW!!!!), it was similar

She looks like my girl. She digs in the mud puddle until she gets it deep enough, and then she sticks her muzzle in and eats from the bottom of the puddle. She is usually a very prissy looking white fur baby…until the joys of a muddy field overtake her!

Awwwww…
Oh Jenny, aren’t you glad you took her in along with Lyle? Who could resist such an adorable face? And, of course, no small child who likes to play in the mud wants to get clean afterwards…

Love, love, love those dogs! Mine are jealous as there is no mud here, only ice and snow.

Waiting for the bus today, there was an older woman in a pink coat with a small poodle with dregs like Mona. The poodle was also in a pink coat. And cream trousers. So that’s all Mona needs, a proper outerwear. Preferably coordinated with whatever you’re planning to wear for the day. :+)

My dogs are absolutely horrified if I even SUGGEST they go out in the rain! My Chihuahua cross doesn’t even do DIRT, let alone mud! LOL! The problem is that sometimes the weather gods conspire and the little darling just have to brave the elements and do their business despite their desiire to just stay inside. Then they all stand at the patio door and gaze wistfully into the house as the rain drips down on them until they resemble drowned rats! You know that old saying, “Not smart enough to come in from the rain”? Yep, that’s my crew–dumb as dirt! The only thing I like about my yard in the winter is that it is all cement so there is no mud to track in! But oh, do they slide on the hard floors!!
