Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!

Feb32010

There are eleven exclamation marks up there because that where you put The Cinderella Deal on the New York Times Bestseller list:

I absolutely did not see this coming–I don’t think anybody in New York saw this coming–so you all have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Thank you so, so much!

Addendum: Actually, we’re at number 10! Because I did not see the asterisk which means we’re tied with the book above, I thought we were #11 (well, there’s a big old #11 right there) but you did even better! I’m not taking away an exclamation point, though. That would just be wrong.

Jenny, stupendous news. I’m thrilled for you.

Well, someone did a good job making sure that it hit the supermarkets (my mom and I both bought ours there), so that even those of us without bookstores got one pretty early on. My mom saw it/ bought it even before I told her to look. She checks out the available books at (I think) Albertson’s, even though she gets most of her books from a used bookstore. As of Sunday, she was saving it to read as a treat, I think. The older generation often has more discipline….

I waited until I got home, anyway!

Congratulations, well-deserved.

Congratulations Jenny!!!!!!!!!!!

Quick question, Did Cinderella Die? I had a chuckle over that.

Just because a book is a reprint, doesn’t mean it looses it’s brilliance!

Congratulations! But I’m not surprised, I LOVED it! And fwiw, it was nothing like it’s evil twin except for the general reason the couple got together. I don’t think they’re twins at all, maybe cousins or something ;)

Congratulations – I’m so glad! This is like the first time you got the call about the NY Times Best Seller List and you were mopping up mud. Now you have Muddy Mona to help remember this day. That was very accommodating of her – what a smart girl and oh, what a great face.

I haven’t gotten to a bookstore in the last month. I couldn’t find it at my local King Soopers or my close but not well-stocked book-wise Wal-Mart…so I’m sorry I didn’t help w/the bestseller list..but I’ll be helping soon…I promise…

Well, I pre-ordered mine from B&N, and UPS *finally* got it to me yesterday! Darn snow and ice! I read it today, and LOVED IT!! I did see some “Strange Bedpersons” in there, but it’s as if they are sisters, both good in their own way.

On February 4, 2010 at 12:12 pm Meredith B. said...

Yes, that’s exactly it! They’re fraternal twins. They grew up in the same home with the same mom and were probably in the same classroom at school, but they developed differently as they matured, and you want to be friends with both of them so you can figure out what makes them similar and what makes them different. :-)

On February 3, 2010 at 11:27 pm SLCSlaveDriver said...

I never read it before, but was at B&N and had a problem deciding, so I figured, what the heck. And despite your previous blog, I enjoyed it and passed it on to someone else who I’m sure will also enjoy it.

Well done.

I just finished it yesterday. I LOVED it! The first time Jupiter fell over I started laughing out loud. I also loved it because it was so much a description of my husband and myself- I’m an artist, I go to bed around 1 AM (if I want to turn in early) and often find odd things in unexpected places around the house ( paintbrushes in my toothbrush holder, a box of truffles in the cabinet with the glass casserole dishes- they had to be at least a year old, because they were from Valentine’s day). My husband gets up at 5 AM and has a 140 page to-do list (really.). I thought it was funny and interesting and not nearly as much like Strange Bedpersons as you thought. I think it’s just because they sprang from the same premise and you know all the backstory on both that you feel that way.
I thought the descriptions of Daisy’s paintings were very intriguing- are they based on someone’s work?

Congratulations! I read TCD during a snowstorm last week, and really enjoyed it. I loved the academic setting that actually sort of resembled real academic places (though today no one’s supposed to ask you if you’re married :) ).

One of the aspects I love and respect most about your books is that there’s always a real sense of emotional justice. Not just that the good guys get the happy endings, but that both people have to materially change their opinions and outlooks. And that the willingness to change for a partner is not always treated as a good thing, has consequences, and has to be fully thought through. The character growth always feels fair to me. I can’t tell you how much I hate reading stories where the heroines give up lots, or change lots, and it’s either treated as good and necessary, or has no emotional fall-out whatsoever. Anyway, thanks.

On February 4, 2010 at 4:21 pm McB said...

I agree. Or the ones where the hero has done something for her own good and he never apologizes because the end justified the means. Huh.

I just looked at Amazon Germany and it’s currently no. 360 in the English book list. And it’s sold out, too. I hope one of my kids ordered it as a birthday present for me as I’d put it on my wish list.

…And then I looked up your backlist on Amazon Germany and discovered the original 1996 “Charlie All Night” cover. Harlequin Temptation. OMG. Looks like a weirdo tickling a giggling girl to death.

Good thing I know your books by now.

(-: If a company or line has consistently bad covers, but consistently good books, some people will overlook the awful covers. I first found out about you via my science fiction chat groups, and if you want to know about bad covers, well, look no further than the SF shelf.

However, if you feel *very* bad about the covers, and decide to do your own . . . and you make those available, I would download them and make a “bookcover” to keep my paperbacks in better shape. (-: You’d be doing a public service on many levels (-:. (-: Heck, this would be a good time for some “Fan Art” to make an appearance, LOL!

Though the UPS man brought mine on Monday, I’ve been deliberately avoiding cracking it open because I know I’d devour it all in one sitting and then it would be OVER. That would be sad. I’m saving it so I have something to do while the rest of America watches the Superbowl.

Congrats again, Jenny!

Well, I bought my copy, read it and loved it. Then I made the mistake of taking it with me to the library because they are running a contest this month with a prized at 8 books read and another at 15 books read. I just wanted them to write down that I had read it. Instead they badgered me into donating it to the library. Later that afternoon I looked it up and it was already checked out. I suspect one of the librarians. Now I either have to wait 6 months until it is freed up at the library or buy another copy cause I was really planning on reading it again.
Congratulations Jenny!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like the puppies will have kibble in the larder for another day. You could drop the exclamation marks as you move up the list, a sort of a count down. That would be cool. So how unusual is it for a reissue of distinguished years to hit #10 on the NYT?

It came! And I have read it (twice over) and loved it. And the painting-in-a-fever scene made me think of The Serpent Garden by Judith Merkle Riley, which is completely different in almost every way (widowed miniature-painting heroine making her way in the world, angels, devils, shipwrecks, low taverns, false relics, Henry VIII and his sister Mary, the French court, Archbishop Wolsey, and the Priory of Sion) but also wonderful, and I am reading that again too, so thank you at least twice!

This is something I’ve always wondered: where can I find the NYT bestseller lists? I just went to the NYT site and the only lists I could find were a few categories – hardback fiction, paperback trade, paperback mass-market, etc. I thought you might be under ppb mass-market, but no such luck. Do they have a specific list for romance and I’m just not finding it? Just curious.

On February 4, 2010 at 10:04 pm Jenny said...

This is the list that will be out on Sunday, either this Sunday or next Sunday, and it’ll be under mass market paperbacks. The publishers get the lists early.

I have read the Cinderella Deal and I am reading it again. I just had to tell you that you succeeded in writing an emotional true book. I read your introduction, something I rarely do, and I am glad I did. You have to understand that I am a person who has isolated herself and thought relationships were more work than they were worth. Even knowing that this is an idealized version of the world, there were moments of such gems that I began to see the light. I am the currently in the midst of making changes in my life and reaching out more, and your book hit me in the gut and really showcased why I am reaching out. So I just want to say thank you and keep going to that emotional, messy, vulnerable place. It’s worth it.
