Happiest of Holidays to Everyone

Dec242009

Especially the Argh People, who deserve all good things all the time. Here’s hoping you’re all warm and surrounded by people you love or at least people you can stand. (I set expectations low for December holidays: Just let me survive.) I’m so glad we’ve spent the past year (and years) together. Here’s hoping for many more!

And back at you!
Thank you for your blog, which I very much enjoy reading.

Tip of the season: when all else fails, hug your puppy. (And if you don’t have a puppy, visit your local rescue!)

A wonderful holiday season to you, Lani, Sunshine, and Sweetness. Also to Mollie and her family.

Thank you for your blog and the endless entertainment it brings to us. We appreciate it!! Stay safe and warm – it sounds like it’s going to be a 3-dog night in your part of the US.

Merry Christmas, Jenny! (and all argh-o-nauts :) )

I recommend staying in your jammies as long as humanly possible and spiking your hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps… one of my holiday survival mainstays.

May your Christmas, and that of those whom you love, be filled with laughter and joy!

So far, we’ve managed to keep the kids upstairs until Grandma and Grandpa can get here from the hotel (Grandma went to the late service with me last night and slept in for a change, and Grandpa has to do his back exercises or he can’t sit on the floor to open presents). We’re off to a good start by not having conflict about starting!

Keeping expectations low is key to unexpected pleasures.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you Jenny, and to Lani and the girls, and to all of the Argh Ink people and their loved ones, and of course a big hug to all of your animals. Thanks so much for keeping me entertained, or making me think.

Merry Christmas, Jenny, to you and your entire tribe! And to all the Argh commenters!

Wishing you the peace and joy of the season! And lump-free gravy. Or, you know, that you all stay warm and survive. Whatever works.

Merry Christmas! Found a pristine copy of Agnes and the Hitman in my stocking- woo hoo! I was despondent a few weeks ago when I went to re-read it and realized I’d left it in a hotel on the other side of the country. My hubby is getting soooo much better with the gifts!! After twenty three years of clothing that’s too small, food I can’t eat, jewelry I won’t wear and replicas from movies I don’t like, this is really exciting! He’s finally figuring out that gifts don’t need to cost much money, they just have to be something I actually want. :-) Partly my own fault, I’m realizing, though- I may have been too convincing when I thanked him for gifts the first twenty years. :-)

Wishing you all peace and joy (and thoughtful gifts) this holiday season!

Hope everybody had wonderful holidays and you’re home safe and sound now.

Also, I got a Julia Child DVD and Mastering the Art of French Cooking and chocolate and sock monkey pajamas! Best Christmas Ever!

Not to brag or anything, but did I mention SOCK MONKEY PAJAMAS?

My seven year old nephew gave me incredibly soft and over-sized ducky slippers, and then promptly tried to make off with them for himself.

Festive greetings to all.

The gift thing takes thought and I was really blessed this year.
I always quote Alan Rickman in Die Hard – “When Alexander saw the breadth of his domain he wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer. Benefits of a classical education” and I go on to wish for a classical education. My gift – a book called “A Classical Education”, subtitle “the stuff you wish you’d been taught at school”. Its informative and funny all in one lovely package. YAY!

I’m envious of the sock monkey pjs, Jenny. My men actually put their heads together this year and decided to READ AND FOLLOW my wish list! Which means I got some stuff I wanted! Behold, a Christmas miracle.

Love all around, happy holidays continue.

My daughters started getting me sock monkey pj’s for holidays/bday/ mother’s day a few years ago. They have sock monkeys so they thought I should, too. I have several pair now and love them all. The pj’s and the daughters – including the one who’s having a bday today;)

I didn’t know what sock monkey pajamas were. Had to look them up. Congratulations Jenny! What a great gift. My gift was the day. No traditional anything. Not even the traditional meal which for me is very boring. Instead I had fun with friends and no arguing or stress! Hope everyone had as much fun as me.

Sock Monkey pj’s? Sheer heaven. I carried my personal sock monkey everywhere when I was a kid, until my mother was so embarrassed by it’s condition that it went to a little kid that had never had one. Right. Even at five years old, I never bought that story. I have a “worst gift” candidate. I got a pair of panties that say “DOWN HERE, BIG BOY” across the front with an arrow pointing downward.

That’s not a worst gift candidate, that a worst gift winner. Loser. Whatever. Worst Gift Ever.

Although somehow I feel sure there will others vying for the title . . .

From my MIL – a tiny bottle of Avon bubble bath, from the 80s, bottle in the shape of something, I don’t remember what, and it was missing the “decorative” cap. You know what I mean, like the bottle was in the shape of a rocking horse and the cap was the head of the horse. She then proceeds to tell me she got it at a garage sale. For twenty five cents.

It had been opened.

My in-laws are not rich but they are not destitute and I do not collect tacky – or squicky – bubble bath.

But that’s still better than my friend’s father who gave his twin brother used pajamas. Again, not destitute.

You know, DH and I were sitting on the couch watching TV and I was reading the paper and I casually mentioned that I wanted to get a certain book for our trip to Florida in two weeks. About a half hour later, he looks up and says, “How do you know what to get me for Christmas and I never have any ideas for you?” After I thunked him on the forehead,……………..I explained that I listen. LOL
