Blast from the Past
Dec12009
JLondon mentioned Earth Girls Are Easy in the comments on the romcom post, and that jogged my memory of one of my favorite film musical moments, Julie Brown singing, “Cause I’m a Blonde”: ” I just want to say that being chosen as this month’s Miss August is like a compliment I’ll remember for as long as I can. I’m in my fourth year as a freshman at UCLA, but my goal is to become a veterinarian because I love children.” Your moment of retro zen (1988).

I don’t have to work, I just have to jiggle.
Priceless.

I like that she’s a freshman in her fourth year.

Thank God for cinema moments like that – tragically, there’s really no one around here to whom I can feel superior. Another great moment – sweet, lovable Cheryl in Miss Congeniality. Asked to describe her favorite date in the finalist portion of the pageant, she answered, “June 12th, it’s not too hot and not too cold, it’s just right.” It’s a shame she was too adorable to dislike.

My favorites lines form that song: “I can’t spell BMW but I drive a Porsche … cause I’m a blonde!” & “To make it in Hollywood you need talent and ambition; I’ve got my own TV show and this was my audition; wait, I’ll get it — duck Magnum, duck!” I loved that movie :0)

*LOL* I forgot that scene! (Then again, I’ve only seen that movie once or twice, which is probably a crime because it’s hilarious. If only for it’s 80s cheesiness.) Now I will probably go to bed singing that song. I knew I should have been born a blond–I would have been so much happier! *LOL*

Considering the epidemic of blonde pop tarts over the past decade or so, this is even funnier now than it was then. Except I suspect that somewhere out there, there’s a blonde watching that clip and wondering why it’s supposed to be funny.

Hellie – think how sad it is for those of us who were born blondes and have, over the years, become brunettes!

This just reminds me of how much I adored that movie.
Also, I had this song on my first iPod for a really long time. And I loved to listen to it. Go Julie Brown!

My favorite line is also, “I can’t spell VW but I have a Porsche.”
This song is so much funnier than running into a woman who is actually like this in real life. Sadly, I’ve known a few.
