Ahhh the 60s and beehive hairdos. Somewhere I have a picture of my cousins and me at our grandparents 50th Wedding Anniversary. I was 11. We’d all been taken to the beauty salon and received highly teased, hairsprayed beehives. You know the ones — so tall that our mothers accessorized the ‘do by tying ribbons around the middle that matched the sashes on our dresses.

Oh, boy. As someone who kept varying shades of bright red for the past sixteen years before radically embracing my natural color (ahem, mousy blonde) again, let me say GET ON WITH IT! I love haircolor dyes and the only real reason I let it go natural was to check to see if I’m gray at all yet. Nope. So, for awhile, I’ll just show that off and then see what happens when that first silvery strand appears.

By the way, anyone, does the first strand of gray “appear” or grow in?

I miss the Loreal Color Mousse that was around about 5 years back. I’d go purple or cherry for a week or two when I was stressed and then be back to my normal with little damage or worries. I loved using the mousse to do messy “stripes” of the two colors since they blended well where they met and it was something fun that I could control when things were getting crazy.

And now for a completely different link: I think a lot of folks here, if they’re not already reading Gail Collins, would enjoy her work.

“I had breast cancer back in 2000, and I am trying to come up with a way that I can use that experience to shed some light on these new findings. I have never believed that everything happens for a reason. But I do feel very strongly that everything happens so that it can be turned into a column.

This can’t be coincidence, it must be serendipity.

My day job is study hall monitor at our high school. Not the most illustrious day job, but it does allow me to write for a couple of class periods a day. Well most days.

Back to the subject. Today I laughed until I cried when one of the girls put one of the boys’ hair up in four inch pig tails sticking straight up from his head. Haven’t laughed that hard in a dog’s age.

Don’t worry the boy in question let her do it, and actually seemed pleased with the effect.

When she finally took the pigtails out his hair stood on end which made me laugh all over again. I wish I had pictures to show you!

I’ve been in a ranting mood all week so all this laughing is good for me. Gotta lighten up and get my style back.

I love coloring my hair. Usually. But it’s mandatory now since the silver comes in faster and faster. And I’m too damn young to go silver just yet.

I do love to point out my sister kept her mullet way past the expiration date for those things. I mean the Billy Ray Cyrus model. Well into the 90s. Then, as a change, she did the big 80s perm through the first half of this decade. She still hasn’t quite joined the 21st century, but no mullet and no perms in at least three years is pretty good.

Good luck with the color. Are you going to share so we can see how great you look? (Not that you don’t look great now, I’m sure you do.)

I think every women understands the need – no, the compulsion – to change our hair color. My favorite is an all over color with contrasting highlights, because if one color is good, two is better. So if the “new you” doesn’t work, change is only a trip to the drugstore and a box of color away.

i think i had the same shirt as the girl wearing the wig and the photo of me is faded just about like that. thankfully my hair was normal except for uneven bangs that my mom cut herself.

Have Mercy! We couldn’t stop scrolling through the older entries of “Don’t Judge My Hair”. It was the photo of the 3 members of the Faith Tones that had us falling off our chairs, though. I remember it vividly, but had sort of blurred it over in my mind. That was not our time of self-expression through hair – we all looked that way. The question is, “Why?” Anna said it hurt her to think how much better she could have looked back then instead of expending all that effort (and hairspray) to look so awful. There’s a lot to be said for all the products today that let you look natural.
