Coming Not So Soon: The Next Fun Book
Feb182009
Krissie and Lani and I all have solo books we need to finish first, but we got this insanely great idea for another collaboration/fun book, this one a fairy tale, so sometime much later, when our solos are done, we’re thinking about collaborating again. If you want to see the first paragraphs of the first draft, go here. Krissie grabbed Cinderella, Lani claimed Rumplestiltskin, and I’ve been wanting to write Red Riding Hood for years. Of course my Red Riding Hood is fifty-two . . .
Oh, and the Argh People have done it again! Dogs and Goddesses is going to #24 on the NYT this Sunday. We owe it all to you, so THANK YOU!

You sure you have to write those other books? : ) This sounds great and I love the opening!

Yay for “older” characters! Now that I’ve gotten “older” I cringe when I see a 22 year old heroine….I buck up and carry on of course, but in the back of my mind I can’t help but think “she’s just a kid, what does she *know*?” No offense to the 22 year olds – you guys know a lot, but not nearly what you’ll know when you’re twice that.

Great. But Jenny, at our age, even 52 is “younger.” I see news stories etc where the protagonist is 49 or 51 or 56 and I vaguely think, over the hill, and then I remember they’re ALL younger than me.
How did that happen?

When I read older heroines (over 35 at least) I think of that scene in the market place when Indiana Jones stops cracking the whip and just shoots the bad guy. It should have been anti-climactic, but it’s one of the most memorable scenes in the whole series.

Speaking of alligators. Bob said this on his blog :
We have a draft of Wild Ride, but there’s some tweaking to be done with regard to the end and a flying dragon and some other stuff. I keep trying to put in a one-eyed alligator and Jenny keeps cutting him out. Oh well.

I gave him dragons, and still he bitches. Sigh.

I trust the three characters which the story isn’t about turn up in subplots, or hookup up with the actual protagonists. Otherwise, wouldn’t chapter one become a stealth prologue?

Picture me with wire hangers in my hands, screaming, “NO. PROLOGUES. EVER!”
Yep, they’re supporting characters.

So, is wild ride done yet, and what was Bob doing with Moot?

After all, it sounds like you won the argument on no one eyed alligators… so it’s an outtake isn’t it?

Loved D & G. Can’t wait for the fairy tale. The soundtrack is Faith Hill’s “This Kiss.”

I had a marvellous weekend here in the UK: D&G and Agnes and the Hitman.
I am 46 so keep with these older characters, as it were!
