I love fairy tales. You may know of these already (or may not want to look at), but some recent fairy tale novels that I really like are <i>The Fairy Godmother</i> by Mercedes Lackey and the following books by Robin McKinley: <i>Beauty</i>, <i>Rose Daughter</i> (retellings of Beauty and the Beast), <i>Spindle's End</i> (retelling of Sleeping Beauty, now with a hideous cover), and <i>Deerskin</i>, which is quite a bit darker than the others. I also loved the feeling of the cover as well as the significance of the artwork. My husband asked if I could tell who wrote which parts without the symbols. I thought I could but I'm glad not testing was involved. I get the NY Times on Sunday but they didn't show the books after number 15 - how rude. I finished the book last night and loved it.
