The Dish: Mental Health Breaks

Dec232008

Andrew Sullivan over on the Dish does Mental Health Breaks and they are terrific. (You may remember the Escaping Beagle.) He’s got a vote up now with the ten best ones and if you can watch them and not say, “Ahhhhhh” or “Whoa” or “You’re kidding me,” you have a heart of stone. Especially the one of a guy’s dogs welcoming him home from Iraq. OTOH, the history of war done with food is bizarrely disturbing. The guy shark surfing is insane and probably dead now. And the Shrew Mating Epic . . . it’s better than Cats (see “Our Wonderful Nature”). I’m torn between the one of a hundred people beating a drum, starting with a one-year-old and ending with a one-hundred-year-old and the one of the guy coming home from Iraq.

Who am I kidding? The one of the guy and his dogs . . . Get kleenex.

Yeah, the one with the dogs and the guy… wow. If I had a tail I’d have been wiggling it along with them.

I didn’t trust you about the kleenex. Should have. I’m still blubbering, that was so sweet.

Yes, extra tissues required over here. Especially when he picks up the dog!

That video of the dogs greeting their “Dad” was like a little Christmas gift I’m sharing with tons of folks. Thanks, Jenny!

BTW, I love to re-read HOT TOY at Christmas–the toy store in the first chapter reminds me of the one in Hickory, NC, I used to go to..it was HIDDEN in the basement of a tire store called Clark Tires! And only the locals knew it was there. You’d go in, see tires all around you, smell all that rubber, and then you’d see these stairs with a discreet little sign mentioning Santa’s toy store…you’d go down the stairs and there it was, a real toy store. You could find brand new red wagons mingling with dusty old Barbies and all kinds of stuff. It was great, the best toy store I’ve ever been to.

Have a fabulous Christmas, Jenny. Stay warm, buy yourself some great little treats and write your heart out. A friend gave me Il Divo’s latest CD, The Promise. It’s playing in the background and makes me feel fabulous, the music is so expansive I feel like I can achieve anything. Well, almost.

Happy, happy holidays, to all you fellow commenters.

Ms. Jenny..
Stay warm and think positive thoughts.
Write them down if they are really good thoughts. We will read them!

Merry Christmas.
