Calliope, the Most Beautiful Girl in the World

Jun142008

Here’s Callie’s birth announcement picture:

Calliope Jinx

So I finally got that phone call and I can shout the good news all over the internet:

Calliope is here!!!!!
(And Bob says I can’t keep a secret.)

Mollie had a beautiful baby girl Saturday morning and named her Calliope, Callie for short. Josh says she’s beautiful and I believe him because he says she looks like Mollie. Plus he just sent pictures and she’s truly gorgeous so I linked to these on a private blog and it seems to be working (turns out all I needed to figure out a fix for picture uploading was to get a GRANDDAUGHTER) but the important thing is that Calliope is here and everybody is safe and healthy and if I could just quit crying for joy, everything would be perfect.

Welcome to the world, Calliope. You’re going to be amazing.

Maybe because the link is to a private blog. I just made it public since the only thing on there is Callie’s pix. Let’s see if that works.

Nope, me either. But how awesome–you are a GRANDMOTHER!! Whoo–hooo!!! Now you have even MORE reasons to go to the party–who else are you going to gloat to and show pictures off to? Certainly not the herd, though I am sure they will be kind about their total disinterest. A wag of the tail and a quick lick to show they are happy for you but haven’t a clue why you are doing the Snoopy dance all around the house. And those tile guys really won’t care too much either. This is news you have to share, FIRST HAND, with a good friend who–lucky you–just happens to be having a party today to which you have been invited!! Write the stuff for your group tomorrow–maybe something at the party will give you a nudge and you will write something totally brilliant that will know their socks off. All because you listened to us and went to the party.

I have a party to go to also tonight–not as illustrious a gathering as yours, of course, but it will be fun and loud and there will be dancing and alcohol and a lot of friends. BUT I have to get my stuff done here before I can go and come up with a dish to share with 20 other people and I haven’t a clue as to what to make or what I am going to wear and then there are the kids and what to feed them and……. You see where I am going with this, right?

Responsibilities never go away–they just have to get put on the backburner once in awhile so life can happen.

So go out and live your life–have some fun! The house and the essay and the other stuff will still be there when you get back, but at least you might have a fresh perspective on it all.

Calliope–what a lovely name. May she always bring you sweet music and sweet memories…

But I looked up which one of the muses Calliope is: the oldest, the wisest, and “the one of the beautiful voice”. Now that sounds like relief for her parents.

Her symbol is the writing pad. So let’s hope she’ll follow her grandma’s footsteps.

that little girl chose well when she picked her family…just the right parents who will love and raise her with the right amount of wisdome and learning and fun…and a grandma to run to for kisses and hugs and being spoiled… “…no, callie, that stuff you deleted on the computer wasn’t important, it was just my next book with no back up, your computer paperdoll is far more important…play..i can write anytime” “oh, you found my collage didn’t you, and you added your own pictures didn’t you sweet thing. i never would have thought to put a giant frog in the middle of the picture story of the mystery in the convent…you are so right, it fits….”

it is soooooo cool. oh, by the way, i crochet more than jewelry, you should have let me know, i rarely do wire baby blankets….

OMGoodness! Congratulations!!

(-: There’s a ton of advice for new moms — but I’ve never seen a “what to expect when you become a grandma” book. (-: Maybe because being a grandmother is naturally fun and easy?? (What do I know? My oldest is only 12.)

So no advice. I will say I wish you could be my grandma — but since you’re younger than my mom, I’m afraid that would involve some serious time/space pardoxing, and I’ll just have to settle for you as a fairy godmother who leaves some excellent books and wonderful blogging in my vicinity.

Congrats again!

Congratulations to all, and I’d say aww but I can’t see the pictures in Safari. <pause> I can kinda in Firefox, but only one of them. Aww.

Anyway, to reiterate my second comment on your Julia post (which I am hoping went through because it doesn’t show up to me as being under moderation yet), using a photosharing service like photobucket or BOXSTr will solve these problems, is easier to do, and will help minimize your hosting and bandwidth usage costs.

Cheers to the little one.

Oh, she’s just beautiful! Congratulations to all of you!

You know, not long before Cherry Con I found the cutest little onesie. It was white with two cherries on the front and I bought it on a whim with you in mind. When I got it home, I thought, “How presumptuous of me. What if Mollie doesn’t even want to have kids?” So I gave it to the brother of a friend whose last name is actually Cherry (his wife was pregnant at the time, so I decided it was just the right amount of presumption for them).

Calliope is one lucky little girl. I wish Mollie and Josh lots of rest over the next few months!

For getting pictures to post, have you tried something like iimage browser?

http://fredfred.net/skriker/index.php/iimage-browser/

It requires that you have FTP access to your web hosting account. You copy the files over, then use iimage to get the code to put into your post. I have had lots of trouble with the stupid image uploader that comes with wordpress, but this method hasn’t failed me yet.

I’ll just add my congratulations to all the ones above. She is a beautiful baby, and you will be an excellent grandmother. And I won’t even pester you about when the book will be done. Visiting the new mother and your granddaughter is way more important. Report back to us when you can.

And tell Josh Happy Father’s Day. Callie showed up just in time.

I had to come over for another look. You know she’s got your face shape, sort of heart-shaped. Now enquiring minds need to know, what are you going to call yourself, grandma, granny, gran, nana? Or will you let her decide? If I ever get lucky enough to be a grandmother I’m going to be Nan.

Congratulations! You are going to be the coolest grandmother ever. Be sure to let Calliope know there are only good times ahead!

I can see the birth announcement pic. What a sweetie! And a pretty name. A little skewed off center but not so far as to be unrecognisable as a name – which is the kind of name I like.

Have fun being the best grandmother ever.

That is a beautiful, beautiful baby girl. I’ve been looking at her picture all day, since Lani shared the news, and smiling. Congratulations to Mollie and Josh, and I must say Calliope is a very lucky little girl to have you as a grandmother! Enjoy her!

The poor kid has four grandmothers. By the time she gets to me, it’ll be “Hey, you!” Which is okay. I’ll answer to whatever she calls me.

One day old and already she has me wrapped around her little finger.

And now really, I must go write something besides “Have you seen my beautiful granddaughter?”

OMG – emerging from night duty haze to find you went and had a grandaughter!!! Congrats to Mollie and Josh and the name and the pic are utterly wonderful.

I wish I had time to sit and read all 126 comments – wah. But wow, you did manage to keep that one under your hat.

Jenny, she is beautiful. Congratulations to you, Mollie and Josh. May everything good come to her in life.
You promised not to put up more pictures? Are you crazy? You’re new to this grandmother thing, aren’t you? You’ll get the hang of it soon, and it’s the best motivation you’ll ever get to overcome your problems loading pictures.

Jenny, we are the group that drools over your dog pictures. Granddaughter pictures make us swoon. That black and white picture is just gorgeous.

We will love all the pictures that Mollie sends you to share. Trust us on that one.

Wait until you feel grandchild baby breath on your neck..the memories it brings back and the love it brings. Again hugs to all of you.

I told Mollie she had to come here and get all the good karma. I think when she gets some sleep, she’ll stop by. She did take long enough to fix the picture of her kid, so possibly we’ve found a picture fix.

Thank you all so, so much. It really is lovely to hear from all of you. Like a reunion.

Oh, Jenny, don’t worry that there are 4 grandmothers.

Every grandmother makes her own space – and all you have to do is work on being the cool one. And bribery helps.

(I’m not the grandma – I’m the aunt. But like grandma it is the better job.)

My kid has 2 grandma’s. One bakes her cookies, the other one burns CD’s for her. Guess which is the “Cool One?”

OK, admittedly, I’m not always a baby person because of the fear of that first picture and the whole Jerry reaction. . . BUT THAT IS A GORGEOUS BABY. Absolutely. I’m sure she’s brilliant as well.

Congrats on the blessing she is!
