More than you ever wanted to hear from Jenny Crusie.

Monday: Old Movies and More Yarn

So I think I’ve finally got a grip on Shar which makes me happy although I’m still struggling with the first scene. First scenes are the worst. I must have rewritten this scene twenty times already BEFORE it became the first scene. Now that it’s first (we cut the first two scenes), it has to do even more heavy lifting. Not that I’m complaining. Much.

So we worked all morning and then went out for a late lunch, stopped at Michaels to find yarn I needed to finish a project, got yarn so I could make a hat to match Krissie’s coat (pictures tomorrow possibly) and went to the grocery to get extra food because tomorrow (Tuesday which is actually today since it’s 2AM) there’s going to be an ice storm. We got an inch of snow tonight and it’s beautiful. Then we came home and did two of my favorite old movies, Charade and Avanti. Charade is good, but Avanti . . . that may be my favorite romantic comedy of all time.

So we’re having a wonderful time, but we’re not getting a lot done because we keep stopping to talk. And make cookies. And laugh. Also, I owe Bob an apology. I make fun of him when he comes to stay and e-mails me from the upstairs guest room, but at one point, we were all in separate rooms talking on Campfire, so we’re no better. Well, a little better; we need Campfire to upload files to each other. But still . . .

So tomorrow, we’re working in front of the fire and building a scale model of the bakery and making more cookies. It’s like camp. With wine and internet access. And I will figure out this first scene. I’m not leaving my bedroom until I get it done. If they want me, they can e-mail me.

Ooh, I love Charade. I’ve never heard of Avainti…must Netflix it.

Building a model of the bakery sounds like fantastic fun. Working by the fire during an ice storm sounds like a great idea, too.

    Keep warm!

i’m glad you three are snug and cozy, stay warm and keep the cookies coming. i wasn’t sure where to post this, it referrs back to a way previous one where we discussed Hello Kitty Vibrators, and how impossible they were to find, and well, i’ve found them, two styles even, and different colors, but i’m afraid to list the url here cause there is a bunch of …interesting stuff also available that while it causes chortals and almost spraying my screen with diet soda and brought my husband over to see if my oxygen line was broken, not sure where it should be listed.

are we x y z rated or do you have a heavy brown wrapper site i can go to?

Please may I come and join in? Sounds heavenly. Here in the UK we have not had a flake of snow but frost starts and glorious sunny spring days. No excuse what so ever for knitting in front of a log fire watching your fav movies.
    Bliss!

I love Charade. Audrey is both completely herself and yet somehow out of character. I’ll look for Avanti.

I’m sorry to hear that writing first scenes doesn’t seem to get a whole lot easier after you’ve written so many of them. And I thought they sucked now! That said, I’m sure yours is fantastic, but I hope you’re soon able to whip it into the shape you’d like.

I have to say bad is when you instant message someone who is sitting behind you, especially when they ask, “what are you doing?” Then you have a whole conversation laughing after every response. Because really you are in the same room.

This may be why I love my dad.

And it does sound like a good time though. I mean it’s a week long slumber party with wine.

Oooh, great movie!! Charade is my favorite. I love Audrey and have every movie she made that’s possible to find.

If camp was like that when I went, I wouldn’t have been so homesick.

But you do first scenes so very, very well. From my end of the book, it’s well worth all your work. :D

I’m not sure if I’ve seen Avanti, will have to look for it. Glad everything is fun for you guys and you’re getting some work done. You write the best first scenes ever, Jenny so trust your instincts.
    Stay warm, write much.

Stephen and I IM each other all the time when we’re 15′ down the hall… the perils of technology.

We didn’t have ‘camp’ when I was at school, although my kids have endured and survived it, sans alcohol, but I must say I really like the sound of what you guys are doing. Especially while working on the same project. Man, the energy crackling around your place should be enough to deter even the most vicious of ice storms :D

My neighbor at the office, who is maybe 5 feet away, and I email each other all the time.

I’ve become such a yarn slut lately, but my local Michaels is a disappointment. Just when interest in yarn craft is exploding they’ve downsized their inventory. Fortunately (or unfortunately, for my wallet) yarn shops are starting to pop up all over. Of course they carry more expensive yarns that fairly make my fingers itch for my crochet hook. But spending my money on yarn and books keeps me out of the pool halls.

I was reading another post and a McB Afghan was mentioned. What is the McB Afghan, please???? I need to buy more yarn, there are such lovely varigateds on the shelf.

I love the theme song from Charade! It’s pretty wacky, but really catchy!

I’ve just listened to the WWFW podcast. It is hysterical and now we can all listen to your dogs talk. Thank you so much for doing it.

When I first bought “Finding Nemo” a few years ago, I watched the prologue twice. Since then, I always make sure to skip it.

I would add, “Summertime” with Kathryn Hepburn to those other two movies.

Greatest romantic movies: GHOST and IMPROMPTU (Judy Davis as Georges Sand and Hugh Grant as Chopin), the latter a buried treasure.

I’m late in responding but I had to add a Charade comment. Apparently Cary Grant felt that he was too old for Audrey and was afraid he’d look like a dirty old man. They changed the script to make her the agressor in the relationship and it was wonderful.
