More than you ever wanted to hear from Jenny Crusie.

On the Road: Lexington

We’re back from a great signing at JoBeth in Lexington–it makes such a difference when people have great questions because we’ve heard our own song and dance so many times that it’s hard to keep it fresh, and so far everybody has had great questions–and now I’m in my room catching up on the news via TPM and Salon and Bob is in his room next door reading a Mac magazine that he mocked me for buying earlier. There’s a connecting door between the rooms, but he’s e-mailing me about how good the magazine is.

Whoa. Update. Here’s our e-mail conversation:

Aha. He’s on his best behavior. That makes him the #1 suspect for the prank wake-up call.

  2. McB on August 28th, 2007 at 10:10 pm

Okay, so tell us. What kind of questions do you WANT people to ask?

Glad Lexington was good to you.

EXCELLENT book! Just finished it, and am very satisfied. Thank you, and thank Bob.

  4. Rosie on August 28th, 2007 at 11:38 pm

That email exchange made me laugh. You have no idea how much I need it. Thanks.

  5. robena grant on August 29th, 2007 at 12:36 am

Awww, that’s nice. Nothing like a guy who can admit he’s wrong.

  6. Mitzi on August 29th, 2007 at 4:51 am

Print it out and save it.
You may need to look at it every so often - just to remind yourself that he said it at least once.

ATATH: I may be the only one who’s taking her time in reading it - don’t want it to end which hurts since I want to know how it ends. As you would say, “ARGGGGGH!”

Is he running a fever? Or just mocking again? I’d be a little wary…

  8. lady T on August 29th, 2007 at 10:48 am

Two more days! You can do it. Gotta love Bob.
I have a friend in Lexington who hopefully made the signing. I’ll catch up with her later to get the scoop. I’m sure it was wonderful. Wish I could hear you two together. Any chance Bob can make the signing in Covington, the Sat. night of Cherry Con?

He admitted he was wrong? Whoah!

I just found your blog - I’ve been reading your books off and on for a few years and LOVE the way the characters interact! Reading that e-mail conversation between you and Bob (don’t you love the technological age?! We e-mail and IM instead of walking a few doors down…) shows why your character’s dialogue is always so funny!

    Thanks for hours of enjoyment!

See, like you said in Sydney. You’re always right.
    You win.

    I have a question:

I remember reading in one of Jenny’s blogs about Agnes/Lisa Livia short story - I think it was intended for St. Martin’s Press or the crusiemayer website. The Cherry’s got involved and helped brainstorm ways to get rid of a body.

What happened to the short story? Is it published online somewhere?

  13. Marilyn K. on August 29th, 2007 at 7:14 pm

Yes! to Lilyblues. I remember this too. I didn’t have time to look for this. Please direct me to the right place for this. I think I have read all the other outtakes but could not find LL’s and Agnes’s back story.

  14. micki on August 29th, 2007 at 7:44 pm

According to HWSW Aug. 19, (business category) the short story should appear in the next newsletter, sent to our mailboxes.

?I think I saw that, but I didn’t check for the short story. Or is there another newsletter coming out? Is there a way to get it re-sent?

That’s what I get for trying to limit my internet time )-:.

  15. JulieB on August 29th, 2007 at 8:28 pm

    Newsletter? There’s a newsletter??

  16. Jenny on August 29th, 2007 at 8:46 pm

I wrote the story and everybody (agent and editor) thought it was too violent. So I’m going to take another pass at it, and it’ll be the free short story in the next newsletter (there’s a link to a short story in every newsletter, The Crusie Quarterly, which comes out about twice a year. Yes, we know what Quarterly means, we’re just behind. To sign up for the mailing list/newsletter (no we do not give your address to anybody) go here:

We heard that your car hates Bob. He is getting a complex over at his blog. We’ll try and cheer him up in Dayton!
Glad that you are home and in your own bed!

  18. RfP on August 29th, 2007 at 10:18 pm

I think I read that story on the Cherry forum. I didn’t find it overly violent, but then again, I like your off-kilter female characters.

I just re-read Faking It (thanks for signing it!) and love how crooked and potentially dangerous the characters are. The bad sex is excellent, too. That’s a rarity–a good bad sex scene. But such a great idea–it’s a really vulnerable state for the characters. (Unlike “Wow! Best ever! Glittery hooha saves the day!”)

  19. Jen Talty on August 30th, 2007 at 8:21 am

I’d like to read violent version. I know, I’m not normal. I get it.

Wish I could have come to one of the book signings! Rest up tomorrow.

Jenny–Bob needs rescuing! I never do this blog thing but after seeing both of you at Joseph Beth Booksellers in Lexington, I was curious about what you each had written on your respective sites. Bob had nothing to say about the experience at all except to wonder if people in Lexington watch the lunch-time news. (We do, but I didn’t–sorry I missed it.) Nothing about the book-signing in Lexington–just where he’d come from (Chicago) and where he was off to (Cincinnati). No comment at all about the book-signing and loyal fans at Joseph Beth Booksellers, which I thought was great! This is why he needs you. Desperately. Guys often forget to say they had a good evening and women never forget they didn’t say so. Thank goodness he has you to keep him straight and why the he-said/she-said thing is a great idea! Both of you–thanks for a great evening in Lexington. Hope the rest of your book tour is a great success! Sincerely (from Ohio but living in Lexington)–K.

I’m looking forward to the Agnes/LL short story! Also is there a place cherry bombs are talking about Agnes and The Hitman?

  22. JulieB on August 30th, 2007 at 3:30 pm

I’m w. Jennifer Talty. How bad could it be?? Thanks for the link. I’m now official. ish.

  23. K.L. on August 30th, 2007 at 6:22 pm

Lady T, we are holding off for a bit longer so we don’t spoil things for those few who have not gotten their copy yet, but if you go here:
    http://cbbarandgrill.bjwcreations.com/
we will soon be discussing it in depth.

  24. Wendy Roberts on August 31st, 2007 at 12:52 am

Agnes is sitting beside my computer taunting me. I won’t read it until I’ve finished writing the next scene in my own story. Then I’ll devour it as a reward :)

I think you should get Bob said, “true. i was wrong” printed on a t-shirt and wear it in public.

  25. Jen Talty on August 31st, 2007 at 7:52 am

Wendy - you won’t be disappointed with Agnes. What a great reward! Good luck on that scene.

And I love the T-shirt idea.

  26. lady T on September 1st, 2007 at 10:03 am

    thanks K.L., I’m heading over.
