On the Shop: Sydney
The shoes in Australia are fabulous.
We meant to go see the Opera House and do serious sightseeing but we stopped by the mall across the bridge first and sort of lost our grip. I bought $75 of kangeroo jerky (big family who need gifts) and a stack of t-shirts (ditto) and great shoes.
And then jet lag hit us both and we tottered back to the hotel, so as tourists we suck, but as shoppers we rule. Then out to dinner with the loveliest people from Harlequin Australia, and I am now desperately in love with Stuart Macdonald, a passion that began when he left the warmest welcoming message on my answering machine. We met and i said, “You and me, Stuart,” but fortunately nothing much bothers him including dinner with forty romance writers, probably because he’s the director of Harlequin Australia/New Zealand/Singapore/Fiji/and many other Faraway Places with Strange Sounding Names that I am now dying to visit. I think he’s the director. I miss on the details sometimes.
The dinner was terrific and the people were even better, especially my minder, Alison, who kept a sharp eye out and kicked me whenever I was about to go face down in my broccoli (I forgive you, Anne).
Then Anne Gracie got up to do the Woman Fuzzy awards, which is why she and Linda have those pink things on their heads. I think. That’s Emma Darcy in the middle. Anne, who’s president of Australian Romance Writers, Emma who’s a legend, and Linda Brumley who survived writing an anthology with Krissie. Tough women. Uh, sheilas.
Then Alison said, “You must have a cab” when Krissie and I really started to droop, which is what everybody else had been saying, too, which just SHOWS you how terrific they are, especially since we’d been saying, “Oh, no, we’ve conquered jet lag” and then dropped in our salmon (me) and lamb (Krissie who has no problem eating baby animals). I’ve conquered jet leg so well that it’s 4AM Friday and I’m up typing this. Which means it’s early afternoon on Thurdays in the US, right? I’m so confused.
And I have just now decided that all my slides for tomorrow are ugly, so I must go change them all. Somewhere Bob is screaming, but then Bob is always screaming somewhere. And I have great shoes (the blue ones sparkle like Glinda shoes but you can’t tell from the pic):

We’re having a great time. Thank you, Australia.

LOL
Jenny, if you posted from the ‘after hours Business Centre’, then we just missed each other - my friend, Liz, and I got up a while ago and wandered through the hallways in our pajamas to check email and such.
I’m sure the slides will be great.
I’ll see you at 9am, TimTams in hand. *grin*
Really. good. shoes. I love those. Especially the blue ones, but both are terrific.
Glad you two are having fun.
Laughing out loud, Jenny!!!!!!!!!!
Nancy
I now see where Min got her shoe obesssion from. I love the blue ones.
Those? Those are your SHOES? Those pink confections are your shoes? Oh. My. God. Wear those and Stuart’s toast.
Shoe drool…
Yep, the pink ones are Min’s.
I re-read Bet Me last night and this morning, because it’s fun and no one dies. It’s a wonderful read. Thanks.
Ooh! CafePress rocks!
So happy you’re having a good time. Bob’s blogging. Six paragraphs. Six!
Those blue shoes would suit me great. Golly, you don’t even have to take ‘em home and glue crystals on them. Neat.
Emma Darcy! I LOVE Emma Darcy! She got me hooked on romance novels. I think I have every harlequin written by her (that I could find) under my bed.
I’m so jealous.
The shoes are awesome. Way to go!
I’m loving the blue ones. And am seriously jealous and I’m not even a shoe person! Have a great time!
You appear to have disgustingly small feet. I am, therefore, quite jealous. Those are very cool shoes.
Glad you’re having so much fun. Try to get a little rest, too, though. You have to LTD with the Bobster when you get back, don’t forget. /;+)
Well, Jenny just completed the full day workshop here in the land downunder and she was brilliant, as always. I’m sure she was hanging on by a thread there at the end. I know my jetlag always hits me on the third day like a ton of bricks. I came over a week or so ago so I’m on Aussie time. It’s lovely to be on the elevator and hear all of the Aussies talking about how amazing she is. I just smile. And yes, the shoes are great. I bought a pair at Myer yesterday. Shhhh! Don’t tell Jenny, they’re having a huge sale.
Do you walk in those shoes? You must be tough. I gave up heels at thirty.
But your heroines are tough too. I remember Min walking in a park in plastic sandals; my poor spoiled feet nearly broke out in blisters when I read that.
Those shoes are amazing and I’m sure your presentation was amazing too. No matter what time it is in Australia, go get some sleep. If they have shoes like that you will need all the energy you can get.
i really like the blue ones (it’s shoes, that’s the best i can do).
try not to fall asleep in the soup. what a tombstone that would make.
