Free Books
Jun192007
We got our author copies in the mail and the cover is so beautiful, I can’t believe it. Just fabulous. (I’m going to blog about the hell we went through to get it next week.)
Oh, you’d like to see it, too?
Mollie’s giving away fifty copies. No lie.
Here’s the deal: If you have a blog that’s been active at least six months (that’s active, folks, not in existence) and you would like to review The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes on that blog, please enter below. Mollie will choose fifty people from the first 100 entries and send a copy of the real book (not the butt ugly ARC) with this gorgeous cover that says “A Novel,” right there on it. In exchange, all we ask is that you review the book. You don’t have to give it a good review if you don’t like it, but you do have to talk about it. And if you let us know, we’ll link back to your review from the UMF site.
Okay, I misunderstood Mollie. To enter the contest you have to go to: www.unfortunatemissfortunes.com. ARGH. And the fields were screwed up, but now they’re fine, so hit the link and go over there and enter and you’ll be fine. Really. Sorry. This is the first time we’ve tried this.
You’re going to love this cover.

I don’t thingk that the labels line up with the boxes properly on the list sign up! I figured it out, but it took a couple of times! Hope I get picked though!

Help! The form won’t accept my email address – keeps saying there’s something wrong with it. Tried a couple of my addies & get same error.
I want to play!

I’d love to be considered, but it keeps saying my valid email address is invalid, so I guess I can’t. Great idea, though.

Ah! Thanks, Marge. That worked.

Okay, so I tried to fill out your lovely little thing & it wouldn’t work for me. It kept saying I was putting in an invalid email address.
My blog has been around since January of 2005. I would love to review. Can I still, even if the sign-up thingy wouldn’t work for me? Thank you!

Would posting a review to the RRL listserv count? I’ve been a member of that for over 2 years.

Nevermind. After a few attempts, and then some redirects, I made it in.

I love free books! Especially when they are from my favorite authors!

Oksy, we screwed up the boxes at first and then I put the wrong URL in–really, trust me, I’m a professional–but NOW we’ve got it.
Melissa, it would, but then we’d have everybody who posted to a listserve entering. Which is not a bad idea, but I’m not sure how we do that. This is something brand new we’re trying, so we’re going to stick to blogs the first time out. But thank you!

I put my name in for the contest – keeping my fingers crossed. In the meantime, I thought I’d pop in to say Hi, the cover looks fab, and I can’t wait to read it. Your books are always an auto-buy. Keep writing, Jenny. We adore ya!

Terrific idea! My blog is two months too young, but I want to participate anyway. Would it be okay to review the book on my own and let you know when the review is posted?

Damn. I’m only at 4 months, 24 days. I suppose that’s a little too much to fudge, too.

Can’t wait to hear about the pains encountered getting the cover. Not that I’m happy that you went through hell but, hey, sometimes it’s just nice to know you aren’t the only one lol.

There’s a chance we’ll do this again for Agnes. In about two months.

Well, I have a blog but I use it as newsletter only, so sniff, sniff, even though I have a following it probably isn’t enough. That’ll teach me to freeze my comments.
I’ll wait, buy the book, and then I’ll comment on it in the newsletter … there you go, one real live customer. Heh.

If only I had started playing around with blogs earlier. I like the idea though, and am now going to have to get more serious about my blog.

Maybe I’ll make setting up a blog my reward for getting to “The End.” Maybe I’ll be done in time to qualify for AKMG, or Dogs and Goddesses.
By the way, did I read that you titled the AKMG book thusly because you hated the sign of the same phrase, or have I just not had enough coffee yet today? (Is “thusly” a word, and even used correctly, or should I get my second cup. . .?) If there is a pertainant story, I’d like to hear it.
On June 20, 2007 at 10:06 am Jenny said...
There’s no story. I just looked at ths sign–I think every gift store on the web has a version of it–and thought, “Well, that’s creepy.” And since AKMG is in the sticky phase, it stuck.
I’m a simple woman.
I think “creepy” is very much in the eye of the beholder. Sting said in an interview once that people would tell him, “We played ‘Every Breath You Take’ at our wedding.” And he’d say, “Good luck with that.”

Wait, what’s AKMG stand for again? Is that the fun book? Or the one with the nun?
On June 20, 2007 at 11:41 am roben said...
In case Jenny doesn’t get back here for a bit, Brooke, AKMG is Always Kiss Me Goodnight.
I imagine an old geezer (teeth in the glass on the bedside table)puckering up his wrinkled lips leaning down to kiss his wife, fingering the thickness of her pillow, and thinking, “Die in your sleep, bitch.” Yeah, I know I’m not simple but I do have trust issues.
Heh.
But for a Crusie, it’s a great title.

I think it’s the “always.” Kind of stalker-ish.
But I have issues, too.

LMAO! I was just thinking of that yesterday, along w. “Alone Again, Naturally,” and the line “You’ll be sorry when I’m Dead,(Can’t Stand Loosing You)” and wondering how did these capture the imagination of our culture anyway. . .? Alhtough, I still like “Can’t Stand Loosing You.”
Robin, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. . .

Does blog in another language counts? I guess not, coz You can’t verify the content. I might start a new one, just for this distant promise of Agnes, or Dogs ‘grin’ … I love The Dogs, can’t wait for them
Terrific idea.

I just finished reading UMF (ready for a second read soon), really enjoyed the book (it was fun) and posted comments on my blog as promised.
Sigh, wish I was queen of the universe, but will be satisfied to not be an evil minion.
Thanks for the book!
